couple winch motor replacement questions

Hi there, just got my new 4.6 hp warn winch motor for my 10,000lb low mount. Am pulling it appart and found couple things,
1 when removed the motor founf it to have quite a bit of surface rust in the drum, cleaned it out, should i just spray it or put light film of grease inside?
2 the gascet came off the plate that mounts between the winch and the motor, do i just bolt it back to gether with the gasket, do i put gascet gue with it or do i do away with the gasket and just use gasket glue or even that gasket silicone stuff i use on my axle housings.
3 the new motor came with a breather fitting, do i just leave it, hook some hose up to it and if so where would you run it to and would you put a one way filter on the end much like on a diff breather, how hot is it likely to get, would the hose need to be high temp.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

1. just clean it out, theres brake pucks in there that you dont want to contaminate
2 clean all the gasket off and seal it with blu max.
3 depending on how much winching your doing the motor can get pretty hot so fit the breather and run some normal clear hose you get from bunnings to where ever you feel you want the high tide water level to be ;)

Cheers hammey, would i apply the blu max to both sides of the plate fitted between the motor and the winch and is this an attemt tp water proof the unit some what.
When i pulled the motor appart found the motor to have quite a bit of rust inside also, am thinking i don't particularly want to pull the winch appart every time i hit the water.
problem with sealing the unit is that if water does get in it is difficult to get out itself, so would you position the breather at the bottom so as to use it as a drain or an indication that there might be water in there.

everything you said there makes sense mate.

I also put a smear of sealant around the motor end cap as well as the heads of the bolts.

your going to get water/moisture/condensation in there no matter what so putting the breather on the bottom to check for water is good, its the muddy water from bog holes settling in there thats gonna kill it quickly.
