Flushing a jerry can

I have a Jerry can here that had deisel in it about a year ago and i want to know what the best way to flush it out to put petrol in it?

put half a litre of fuel in it, swirl it around and spill it out
its now ready to accept petrol.

Would have thought you could just whack the petrol straight in. Our fuel tanker goes from diesel to unleaded to premium with nothing more than gravity draining it out.

even if you did, the amount that would go through the system would be negligable - and petrol would float on top of diesel wouldnt it? so the dreggs of diesel would likely sit at the very bottom of the tank anyway =)

and where exactly do you think the fuel draws from? if it was from the top of the tank you'd run out pretty quick!
