As the mad Pommie spectator I would just like to say thank you to everyone at the Cliff Hanger for making me feel welcome.

The organisers didn't do a half bad job :P

Kevin et al managed to feed us

Simmo for the entertainment on Friday night

Some of the drivers even managed to keep 4 wheels on the ground at times and had them pointing in the right direction some times :P

Thanks one and all for a good week

Regards

prizes

Post by Hobzee »

For those who weren't there, at presentation we handed out $20,000.00 in cash prizes - woo hoo! Our guys drove home with the lolly.

We also announced that in 09 there will be $30,000.00 in prizes and unless another event steps up to the line and matches this - Ironman Cliffhanger is now THE RICHEST event in Australia .... and it puts out ...

We are running 2 classes in 09 - unregistered "Buggy Class" and registered "Challenge Class". The $10,000 1st-3rd prizes will be pro-rata split based upon the % split of entries into each class. The $20,000 stage prizes ($1000 per stage) will go $100 to all the top ten outright place getters, regardless of class. So most people will drive home with lute, not just the top dudes.

Hobzee and Rudi there are absolutely some great photography on these pages. Other than producing the DVD why not gather all the photos together and put together an ablum. I am sure there are competitors and spectators who will be more than willing to invest in such an album.

Yes they do run together and daily groupings is by progressive score and not class so we have Buggies mixed with Challenge class doing the same stuff. That's what we did this year but we only had Rob Barton's buggy - he did great and the crowd loved him.

Yes Gaz - most of the pics of the wall roll overs and wheel stands are on my camera (taken by Hottie Monster) and I will get a CD to Hole Shot Images (Danni and Chippa) as they have more great pics and can put packages together. I am meeting with the Mud Rhino guys real soon re DVD and will chat about their pics with them. Many Photographers treat their pics like musicians do their music. Although they love to share and show them there is a proprietary issue.

Post by Hobzee »

Yes mate, we want more buggies. Bring on more Buggies ...

We are reviewing safety specs for next year as the event is getting faster and faster and among these specs may be covering exposed wheels on buggies like Rob did.

Does any one have pics of this car a night, Hobzie and a few others mentioned rather large flames were coming out the back.
It'd be great to see them, you miss those sort of things in the nav seat.

I beg you to leave the buggy wheels unguarded for 09! As Cams doesn't require wheel guards it means adding them for one event a year would be a shame! It would add several hundred dollars to the cost and really destroy the look of the vehicle. I am already adding a winch and gps mounts etc which will compromise the vehicle for CAMS events, remembering that your event is the only other event for high speed buggies.

None of the trucks running have ADR compliant guards to the tyre centreline, any way. I can't see how guards help on 4x4's with the tyres sticking out by 3" and potentially completely out the guard at full lock where crowds are most likely to get hit by rocks.

After going to baja last year and finke this year I am very keen to see this format of racing progress with 100% all out vehicles that are purpose built.

Best regards,

Justin

Rob put gaurds on his , in about 3 days !!
they are completly removable !!
the main reason he did it , was to stop him getting covered in mud & rocks !!
( & it still weighed far less than anything else competing !! :D  :D )
