4runner with 253, driveline?
Hey guys im buying an 84 4runner with a 253 in it. Havent bought it yet but definitely getting it.
Anyway all the hardcore shopping centre kerb crawlers at work in there rodeo's, tritons and patrols are saying im an idot for
1 buying a lux
2 buying a second lux with a 253 in it
It has the standard G52 box in it and they are saying im forever going to be replacing g/boxes, diffs and trannys.
Can someone please tell me the TRUTH!!! I dont care what it is but want to know, its only going to be the weekend warrior so a bust box now and then doesnt worry me.
Oh and if it matter i will be running 37" creepys and its locked with lockrites front and rear.

When you break the G52, maybe replace it with a R150.
With 37's you might want to upgrade the axels when they go, to 30/30 Longs if the hip pocket can afford it.
Locktup 4x4 are over your way.
Those guys just wish they were smart enough to get a lux

for the past 7 years ive had a 79 hilux ,308 standard diffs diesel 4spd box
So far replaced 1 rear diff an currently rebuilding spare box as old one has just started to get very noisy
All comes down to how you drive it an how you maintain it
Mine does a lot of heavy towing (car trailers ) an is daily driven approx 80kms everyday of the year

i gues it how you drive ot of course.
what sort f fuel consumion do you get with the 308?
I've got 2 tanks which give me a total of 140 usable litresmegabuff wrote:how do you feel about the straight gas?
do you worry aobut running out of fuel and then being up the creek?
I am going to put a second tank in mine and then have a switch to swap them over so i will have a reserve
I can either feed off 1 tank at a time or both at the same time
I also fitted a hydrostatic valve between the 2 tanks so that one tank can't over pressurise the other
Only time i have any trouble is winter down here when we get bad frosts
The converter freezes up an i only get a bout 500 metres down the road (bottle of hot water normaly fixs this)
Otherwise i just fill up every payday regardless of how much gas ive used
