1.3 tuning HELLLLP

Post by robbo5121 »

hey guys, i had new vaccuum parts put in my carby and it was idling around 900-1000 rpm i was happy

then i got shitty fuel form themobil that was full of water, the mechanic sed the bowl was full of water, and i havnt driven thorugh any nor has it rained,

i dumped a bottle of mtho into the tank when i filled up,

but

it is still running crap, although it has regained its power(not stalling under load)

only thing now is it jumps around when it idles form 400-1000 rpm

could any1 tell me a fix or post a pic of the idle screw and intructions for a stock 1.3 swb 89 sierra

The idle mixture is capped from factory on a zook carby. The idle speed is just to teh left of the throttle linkage (looking over the rocker cover at the carby). If its idling eratically check that you dont have a vacum leak somewhere.

How much fuel have you run through it since the water issue? It may take a tank to clear out the gunk. Did your mechanic give the carby a good clean out?

I'm always hearing people say they bought crap fuel that had water in it..
Here's a test for you... Half fill a glass with petrol and then add a few tablespoons of water to it and see what happens...

The water goes to the bottom of the glass: IE:
The petrol floats on the water and they do not mix.

Years ago the servo I worked at would add 400 litres of water to the tank so we could use the last 400 litres of petrol if the truck was late to refill it.
The pickup pipe doesn't go to the bottom of the underground tank.
Then after we got the bulk of the remaining fuel we'd suck the water back out.
Did it over and over again and would have known about a problem if there was one as we were the only servo in town.

If there was water in your tank it would most likely be condensation build up over time or it got there by a leaky cap in rain or you drove through a creek.

Your idle speed problem is probably chunks of some solid material blocking the vacuum passages in the carb.. not water.

so water can make a 1.3 stall under load??? cos thats what mine does right now!!! start it up and it wants to stall immediatly if i dont keep the revs up!!!! i'll take it for a spin and it still stalls when i slow down to 2000rpm!!! :?

My zook dont like higher octane fuels, it runs like it has dirty fuel.
Most tell me thats BS. But some moto riders swear that higher octane fuels can be too dense for small engine carbs.
I have no tech or big words to back up my opinion...but my zook runs much better on standard ulp.
It don't like e10 much either.

yer as sed somewere b4, fuel floats on water, so the water in the carby bowl stays were it is and runs the engine shitly, so throw a bottle of metho in 4 u refill and it helps reove the water, but it could be crap fuel or sumthing blocking th ecarby

Crap fuel blocking th ecarby??
Don't you run fuel filters?
Take the top off the carb and give it a blow out with compressed air.. get the gunk out.
I'd say your built up condensation in the tank has let it rust and thats where your problem has begun.
Fit some or replace your fuel filters and put a water absorber in the tank IE: A litre of Metho.(every 6 months at least)

Should solve your problems.

i have that problem sometimes when the motor is cold, when in neutral just keep the revs up with the throttle....no more stalling.

also you should check your air filter and make sure it is not caked in crap, :D

My Hand throttle/idle upper is brilliant.

I used to get bad cramps doing heel n toe starts.
