They are famous for being thirsty as hell... 20l/100 is about normal for them.
Extractors, bigger zaust, elect ig, and a rotorbutton mod that should be in the history, Kyle was talking about he did with his, was done by Sandy at Aus 4wd.
Engine swaps are good ideas if your rich

That I did but this is a 3ltr........ not a 4.2.....
For a 3ltr, you will get better driveability and mildly better economy by putting an injected one in. Just get a whole new motor, $400ish with everything from a skyline of VL Commodore. Bolt the motor in, screw the computer on, a couple of relays and a fuel pump and you're away!

Thanks heaps for the info
drop in a full NISMO donk, turbo and all, out of VL! would be cheapest conversion.
If you arent rich, then just do the smaller things. But will cost more than the $400 Kyle was mentioning.

Try and find someone that has actually done this conversion on their own vehicle and see if their fuel economy improved. I would be surprised if it improved at all. I think it would need computer mods before it got any better.
Other than that if it is an improvement then you would be better off buying acomplete damaged VL then you get everything you need. These are around for $500 on average. If you are going to go this way buy a VL not a skyline as the VL has an external fuel pump you can re-use and you will sell the remaining parts easier. A wrecker will charge you more than this just for the parts to convert yours.

Initial outlay is large, but if you plan on keeping the rig for a while you will see some savings
Working on $3000 to get fitted, the price of gas not being the huge saving it used to be, it would take you several years to start seeing savings wouldnt it?
Would be long long while.. like 7-8 years??? or More?
Had my SWB Maverick for almost a month now, in which i get the following economy on a standard 4.2ltr petrol with extractors and a really crappy exhaust system
Highway 6km/ltr
City 5km/ltr
Offroad 4km/ltr
I was informed of the not so good fuel economy but am impressed with their power on road and off so i am happy. Not going to bother with LPG would take way too long to reap the benifets and besides i would rather invest that money into some other modifications
