GT28RS (Disco Potato) on a 2H - outrageous propopsition?

Post by dogbreath_48 »

After an experience with a garrett t28 that i'd rather not talk about, I'm sick of buying second hand, bootyfab shit. So i'm looking at buying a brand new turbo. The GT28RS can be had for <$1500, and i've heard about lots of TD42/1HZ's getting great results using them.

So considering the 28RS for my 2H. I know i won't be able to make the most of it esp. with std fuel pump etc - but as long as it works well i'd be happy! This way i can also transfer onto bigger/better engines down the track (built 12HT or 1HZ), without worrying about the turbo running out of puff.

Will also be running a 270hp PWR water/air intercooler.

Would like to hear your thoughts as to the reformance of a gt28rs on a standard but fresh 2h.

Thanks Azza.

I made the original post in a bit of a hurry - should mention i'm considering the model with .64A/R turbine housing (other option is .86 A/R)

Here are some specs:

Horsepower: 350hp
Compressor Housing A/R -: 0.60a/r
Turbine Housing A/R - : 0.64a/r or 0.86a/r
Turbine Wheel Trim - : 76
Turbine Hsg. Attachments: Inlet: Standard 4-bolt T25 flange
Turbine Hsg. Attachments: Outlet: Standard OEM 5-bolt T25 flange
Oil Inlet - : Inverted Flare 7/16-24 thread
Oil Drain - : Standard 2-bolt T25 flange
Bearing Type: Dual Ball Bearing
Cooling: Water Cooled Centre
Wastegate: Integrated Wastegate

t25 flange is a minor hassle as my manifold has a t3 flange - any problem with those off-the-shelf reducers? (clearance shouldn't be an issue). The .86 a/r version IS available with a T3 flange - but i suspect the larger a/r housing would be unsuitable for my application?
