Need help choosing UHF radio!

Post by mike_nofx »

Hi all, I need some help picking out a UHF radio for my cruiser.
So far i've been using a cheap motorola hand held, but its just not performing well enough. Too un-clear and not enough range, battery doesn't last long enough.

Looking to spend up to $300. Have found some on eBay in GME and Uniden. Prefer the smaller sized ones too. Remote face may be handy for installation, but still not decided wether its totally required.

Being a complete amatuer in this department, im not really sure what to look for.

For example, heres 3 i found on eBay. similar pricing. How can i compare them, and which would YOU buy?

Any info very much appreciated!

Thanks
Mike

If you want to spend the money, Icom is the best. I reckon GME are next followed by Uniden but GME and Undiden are really personal preference.

Have you looked at Prestige Communication? Great people to chat too. Fastest postage I've ever seen (ordered one arvo and arrived at my desk at work the next morning). Highly recommended.

Icom

Also, I read somewhere that Icom has brought out, or is soon to, a dedicated UHF CB box specifically for the OZ market.

Have tried Uniden, GME and Icom.

They all worked well but if I was spending my money it would be on a Icom. GME are also very good but I wouldn't look at a Uniden.

But stepping back from the brand names, you can stuff the whole lot up with a shit ariel.

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up getting the GME TX3220 with aerial, delivered for $285 from prestige coms.

Was so happy with it, and the price my bro bought one too.
