Front Hubs

Post by grant84 »

Hi guys my auto front hubs make a horrible clunking noise once put into 4wd and start moving. When in 2wd can also hear a slight grinding noise when driving coming from the wheel.

I assume I need new hubs? I dont do any extreme 4wding so what sort of hubs should I get and what can I expect to pay to get them done (roughly)? Reading up on the auto vs manual and i think manual seems to get more votes.

First off: Go and order some manual type locking hubs.

Check your wheel bearings for slop/grinding noise, also check your brakes for wear (metal on metal?). If it does it in 2WD and 4WD it has to be one of those two.

The other thing you might want to consider is new front wheel bearings and a swivel hub kit.

I assume your talking auto hubs. happened a bt with them, will get a massive clunk and then grinding clicking type sound like it is half engaged.
If so its busted.
Get some manual ones, very tough and very simple to swap over yourself

Alot less than mucking around with autos from time to time!

Find a set of genuine Nissan auto locking/manual hubs (not to be confused with auto hubs only), superwinch or avm.

prolly between 250-300 for a set of avm's. keep them clean and fairly greasy (wd40 or the like) as the caps screws dont like dirt and water too much.

cheers

I smashed and AVM hub first outing (front locker) and I know of another member that put brand new AVM's on, did one trip to fraser then went to glass house mountains, locked the front and did about 500mtr with front locker on and smashed an AVM.

GENUINE is the only way to go in my opinion.

As for fester selling them at $160-$170 a pair I'll have to ring him and check but I call BS and if he is I will buy EVERY SET he has. The conversion (genuine) I sell for $250 all day every day of the week and can not get enough of them.
Cheers

Don't waste your money on AVM rubbish as they self destruct as soon as there's any load on them. I managed to pick up a set of genuine hubs the other day for $110 for the pair.

You don't get them that cheap very often though.

Cheers Mick.
