TC question re the gearsets changeable between Prado Hilux?

Post by BabyGodzillaGTi-R »

Hey guys i'm quite curious.
Does anyone know off hand if this is possible?

To my understanding the stock Transfer Case ratio of the LN106 Hilux is 2.2:1. I've a spare 1997 Toyota Prado 3RZFE Transfer Case lying around and i believe it's around 2.5:1

So i'm quite curious if it's possible to interchange the ratios gearsets/ internals so that i can get better low range? I think the Hilux is a RF1-A transfer case and the Prado could be a VF2A.

I wonder how similar are the two transfer case? But i notice that the output to the front on the Prado TC is to the left instead of the right like in the Hilux.
What say u guys?
Just a thought.

Cheers.

Could be wrong here, but thought the Prado's run a chain driven case and your hiluxe a gear driven one so very different setup.

Having said that it may be possible that the gears themselves can be swapped over.

I don't know, have not tried it myself, nor do I know anyone who has.
Dosen't mean it can't be done tho.

Maybe have a chat to a good gearbox place to see if the gears are interchangable ??

One of the Gru's here could shed some light ???

The internals are totaly different and cannot be changed around, just get some low range Tcase geras instead.

The transfer out of your prado is worth around 6-700 (the leccy shift surf ones are $800+!)

Transfer gears from Locktup in 4.7:1 are $520, and a bearing kit from don Kyatt is $320- Between them you pretty much wind up with a brand new transfer case- the only things you reuse are the shift forks, Output shaft and front drive gears.

thats what i did! But then i bolted it to an R151 to get the G52 out of the system.

Oh, and the 2.8D fell out too and a 1KZ-TE 3.0TD fell in! :D
