air v's auto lockers

Post by Barno111 »

owning a 75 series with just the rear lsd and no factory lockers. what would be better to go for. air lockers or the auto full time lockers. i would orginal put them in the front becuase the rear lsd is doing fine. but later on down the track i wouldnt putting rear lockers in also! what is better and why? i've never really had anything to do with them.

if money isnt an issue go air lockers because when they are on they are on when they are off they are off.

but expect 2 things to happen here, there will be 4 pages of people with different opinions and no real answer, and you will get told to search!

enjoy!

In my opinion

Front - Definitely an air locker. Esp. in a heavy LWB 75, you don't want to be worrying about larger turning circle and extra drive train stress' synonymous with auto lockers

Rear - Auto locker only if you can't afford an air locker.

i.e. Air lockers shit all over auto's in nearly every scenario.

I have Powertrax Noslip Auto Lockers in mine and have had no problems in over 20,000km.

Turning circle dramas??? Have less than trying to turn a front air locked vehicle

Drive Train Stress??? Still got the same CV's it's had since I got it and they are not noisy.

Air Lockers perform better???, except when seals leak or airlines get torn off or compressor stops or switches fail or etc etc etc.

Like dogbreath48 says, you'll get pages of opinions but the only one that really matters is yours.

I could afford Air Lockers but was not willing to be ripped off by ARB.

I'd rather have no Pfffffffft and an extra 2.5k in my bank account.

I think that will be 99% of peoples opinions for front and rear.

except that i believe an open front is better than an auto-locked front (for my kind of driving - hard touring i suppose you could call it)

How about just an Auto locked rear?

I'll place bets you'll get nearly anywhere you want to with that.

Uphill counts, and that's where the rear matters, it's got the weight on it.
You don't generally need lockers downhill, and they can be a hinderance.

what do you use it mostly for???

i had a lockright from the states under $400 new.
no probs but used as an offroader only.

i now have twin airlockers. and having dramas with the front.

i think if you use it onroad alot save for air locker.
if its a weekend pig go the lockrite.-US version, no bodgy copy.

The surf would climb to the point it would possibly roll over, provided the traction was available.

well my truck is a every day driver, so im leaning more forward an air locker, just due to the fact i can engage it and disengage at anytime. i prefere to have a crack at something and then be able to turn them on and do it with ease. it would be used mainly for climbs as such were the open diff of the 75 series just spins out. most the time i really depend on the rear lsd doing its job. and if all else fails use the winch.

thanks for the feed back guys.

cheers
