Post by big38l »

Hey, it's sunday and just playing with ideas! Thinking of a 454 in a hilux, wondering if it could be legally engineered in NSW, will find out on monday! Thinking of 454/TH400/atlas!

454

Post by big38l »

Sorry, no wallet lending... The missus has it! Haha. I know it is possible, there was a big yellow hilux getting around up here with it but I will go see the engineer n make sure before I yank the motor out of the 4Runner! Nah, not american but I do already have the engine and tranny anyway (parting out the blazer) so it sure numb the costs a bit! :-)

If they are much wider than an aussie V8 then you will run into trouble with the steering column.

Would be a mean set up if you can squeeze it in though

I a have fitted a bigblock to a WB tonna. They arnt that much wider then the 253 we pulled out. I think only about only about a few inches. Its the bottom of the block thats alot bigger & the weight over thefront axle thet could be an issue.

Yeh the weight is the thing, although, if possible I am thinking of modifying the firewall and moving the engine back a bit!

i know of a fella who put a 454 in a little suz serria. wasn't legal though but still got it in there. but why dont you think about putting like the V6 commodor engine or the v8. they are much more common conversions and they probly have bolt one kits for them.

Yeh, it has a commodore v6 in it at the moment, with a dyna 5spd and duals! The reason I was thinking of the conversion was that I have the engine and tranny already with a full gas system, other than registration and available space it should be a fairly easy convert! Also it isn't that common as a commonwhore convert!

With $$$$ you could probably squueze it in, people are putting in 1UZ's they have large DOHC heads on them. Doubt it would be legal though, waaaayyy over the allowable capacity limits for engine upgrades. But with enough $$$ could get it registered as something like a ICV with all the relevant testing done.

best thing you could do is sell the 454 big block, and with the money get a 400 small block :) ( although a 350 or a 327 woudl be plenti in a lowlux.

theres conversion kits available for the chev aswell, no dramas there, same as small block chevs. the engine mounts may be a little different though.
cant quite remember... and cant be bothered goin out to the shed to measure my 350 an 454

while i'm all for "different" conversions, i'm still trying to work out the advantages of this creation? you could get more power out of a 2j-gze or 1uz-fe conversion, be faster, and all that.

Mount the 454 back to front in the tray area with a turbo700 feeding straight into a boat Vdrive which is adapted to the front of the gearbox
This way youll have all your weight more centralised Heaps of power
heaps of gearing ( 4 auto, 5 in toyota box plus hi an low plus whatever gearing you run in Vdrive)
An Huge WOW factor
The amount of torque you should get out of it you'll have to go for rockwell diffs or something equally heavy duty

Hey you can dream cant ya!

The big yellow Hilux I thing you are talking about had a 406 small block in it with fuel injection turbo 700 box and 9" diffs I built it about 10 years ago and sold it to a mate about 6 years ago how lived on the central coast it had the number plate BAR UP on it

That motor had more then enough torque as it could light both the rear 39'' tyres up of the lights all the way into 3 gear mate I miss driving that thing.

I say just do it.
