G'day all,
did a search on this topic and found some good info. from the sounds of it you need a 2" spring lift and guard trimming.
I am planning on fitting these to my 4dr RR on disco rims (more offset), I want to avoid doing a body lift if possible, and I'm not affraid of using the angle grinder so cutting the guards doesn't bother me. But if I have to cut too much I would prefer to do a body lift and then cut alittle.

I have 235/85R16 Goodyeear Wrangler MT/R's fitted to my Rangie. Bloody good tyres, but not too friendly on my poor 10 spline axles, especially with the air locker !!
Got a 2 inch spring and 1 inch body lift and they still rub on full articulation. I just panelbeated the lip around flush and this seem to fix the problem. I have seen them fitted without a body lift, but like you said, you need to do a bit of butchering to the guards!!
Broke two axles in one day. Guess I will have to upgrade to a Maxi-Drive!!
Anyway, good luck,
Trav

hilux conversion
the hilux diff conversion sounds like the best way to go for weak rangie diffs and axles.

G'day,
Thanks Aquarangie. I am taking the 235/85 R16's off my stage I, they are only BFG All Terrains, can't afford the goodyear MTR's yet (they will come in time, great tyre). the 10 splines lasted well considering ? you do need maxi's though.

As I said in my post '10 spline axles', I have rectuified this problem by swappibng the air locker for the maxi-drive in dad's Rangie (was mine originally out of my old 84 Rangie).
Just have to remount the bottom shockie to the fromt as per the later models. Much easier than refitting the dog clutch fixing to the original and cutting holes!!
When you do decide to replace your BFG's, go the MT/R's. Not much noisier and much better off-road than the BFG (they were my last set, but in a 245/75R16).
Regards,
Trav

Das , i have 235/85/16 BFG AT's on Disco rims on my 85' Rangie with no lift or gaurd trimming and they havent scrubbed yet, i wil be fitting a 2"lift as i have springs that i will be taking out of my RR ute. The tyres also give extra clearance under the diffs due to their extra height.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
