Can anyone tell me the dates for the Alpine this year?
I heard it may have been cancelled or moved.

Any info would be fantastic

The Alpine Challenge will be held from 19th - 22nd September, 2008.
Currently all competitor places are booked. We have a reserve list for those who missed out. To place your name on the reserve list, please contact us.

The Alpine 4x4 Challenge is a winter 4x4 team-based event at Dinner Plain where highly modified four wheel drive vehicles compete over four days in the rugged Victorian High Country. The event is unique to Australia and being so close to Melbourne is already popular with four wheel drive enthusiasts. Enter a team of two vehicles for $350 per vehicle. Details of vehicle eligibility can be downloaded from the CCDA

The event is held on the first weekend of the Victorian school holidays in September each year. Competitor registration and scrutineering goes from Saturday through to midday Monday - competition on private property - Monday afternoon is the presentation.

Watch them tackle vertical ascents, crawl down steep inclines and of course make their way through bottomless bog holes. Come along and watch the country's best four wheel drivers compete in mud and snow. Entry is only $10 per day. Great family fun. Come for the day (Saturday or Sunday) or stay for the whole weekend there's plenty to do while you are visiting at Dinner Plain or nearby Mt Hotham.

Competitors were sent e-mails last week about a change of venue and a possible change of date or even postponment, but we will know more early August,

Hope its not postponed... Do you know how much it costs to get accommodation up there? We had to book it early this year to get a lodge... thats a lot of $$$ wasted and good luck getting a place to stay for new dates!

Maybe we should all just go for one big party even if the events not on...

I too got frustrated with this and rang Sharon yesterday arvo.
Sharon told me that Paul was out checking property boundaries. They have a property but need access to it and there were trying to ensure the access they intended was on the correct property.
She continued to say that the WILL have a DEFINITE answer by the 4th of August. So ATM it looks positive but not 100% confirmed.
I'm sure they have an awful lot invested in this event and want it to go ahead.

Oh well

We have already booked and paid money toward our chalet we booked, if the Alpine is moved we are still going up to Dinner Plain for the weekend we have booked for a party weekend and won't be going to the event because all our other weekends are already booked up!

P.S. I hope it doens't have to come to this.

Well Alison we will just have to have a massive party!

I'll be going whether its on or not too! and I highly doubt we will head up for the real one if its on a different date.

The spa party will be revisited, hopefully sparkes can keep his pants on this time.

Has anyone heard anything as yet?

At this stage we will still lose 50% of our deposit and if we don't get back to them by monday at the latest then the whole lot is lost.

Maybe we should just go still for a weekend away from the kids!
Do our own driving?
Is it possible for someone to let everyone know whats going on not just the competitors. There is alot of family and friends making the trip as well.

I do also understand that they are probably doing their best on this as there is probably alot at stake for them as well.

Cheers.

From what I heard yesterday, Paul had been looking at another entrance to a property closer to the village, but because it's currently all under snow, he doesn't know what it's like underneath.

I believe they are also looking into another property further out and will know more after this weekend.

Nothing is going to be confirmed until Monday.

If I do hear anything confirmed either way I will post on here.

I believe Paul has spoken to the accomodation bookings people and if people have booked this year they should be able to transfer it to next year if you wish.

Thanks to both of you for replying.

Thats what was in the fine print but I haven't spoken to them personally.
The people we booked through was the Dinner Plain Reservation Centre who I believe were in charge of most of that area for bookings.

Anyway - lets just wait and see what pans out over the weekend.

I'm pissed off about that decision. We look forward to going every year. Did they say why it has been cancelled?
