Exactly. I'm not mad keen on this particular one. But its close, and from the pics and description, 80% what I want so I'll have a look at it. Even if its just to get more of a 'feel' for them. Never even driven one yet.

Looking on ebay, 2k more gets me a shmick paint job, rego, and a bonnet scoop (which I don't want, but anyway), for example , clicky.

But then there's some asking up to 7k for similar

There is one or two red motor blocks that are used with the commodore cup cars because they are thicker then the rest, not sure on the eng number series to define them.

Holden did quite a few 'odd' things ....... trialing differant setups etc over the years, & I've probably got the links somewhere for some of the numbers ( might be in the MQ / MK series bible or the Gen-tech bible.... cant remember ! )

& the chances that this ute has the "chosen block" are......

I'll take the SFA choice !

the engine is 30+ years old, been bored and rebuilt by god only knows,, has most likely never seen a drop of coolant in most of its existance, & its a V8 in a B&S ute so I'd expect some shredded rubber in the wheel arches.....

Went and saw it today, its rough enough not to warrant $2500. But not rough enough to throw away. Started pretty easily cold, and boy did sound sweet . Didn't want to idle though

The guy was either being very optimistic when he says little rust, or hasn't seen it in a long while. While I couldn't find any deep rust, its got bits of surface rust everywhere. Definitely needs a paint before its back on the road. Interior wasn't too shabby, ill fitting glove box and tears in seats.

Thanks for the replies. I'll dig this up when if I find another one when I save up some more dosh, or if this feller accepts a really low offer I might consider it in a few months.

For a start, its not a WB ute- there was no such beast. At best, a HQ-HZ ute fitted with a WB front end.

And it sure looks like Bundy Bear on the bonnet, so keep that on.

EDIT: and I've got nothing against the bundy bear, but it really is a poor attempt He's painted around it in white, very badly.

You can unlock them with a paddle pop stick and start them a with two bob bit, get a good alarm

80-83 WB i think, only built utes and statesmans. Wb tuna had round headlights with one big grill. Most stuff in a WB (running gear wise) is from a commodore, eg master cylinder, moter, box etc
