Mods to my 3lt GU

Post by ShaneGQ »

Hi

I am looking at doing some mods to my GU. It is a 2002 3lt turbo running an Auto gear box. I plan on the following and would like to know what problems I may encounter.
4" lift
33" or 35" tyres (will there be a problem with the auto if I run 35")

Any info would be great.
2002 GU 3lt wagon 5" lift, reduction gears, 35" MTZ...
'94 Suzuki Sierra SWB 5" lift, 30" MT 's and a winch to pull the bigger trucks through....

The 4" lift may cause the engine to grenade.
The 33 or 35" tyres may cause the engine to grenade
Leaving it standard may cause the engine to grenade.

I recommend saving for a 4.2 motor to put in it when it grenades.

Hope this helps.

Ok. So only half a brain answers. No worries. Just thought someone might be able to give me some right advice for the questions that i asked. Did not know it was a 4.2 forum.

I run 33's on my GU on the standard suspension and its no problem, ill get a 4"lift when i get the cash together, but ill stay with the 33's. you shouldnt have any probs with the tranny, plenty of guys run 35's on GU's

im seriosly considering buying a TD42 and keeping it around just in case, ive got a 2000 ZD30 getting up around the 150,000Kms mark and both halves of my brain are getting worried :?

even with 33's the gearing with 3l auto is terrible. so going 35's will need diff ratios as a minimum, with transfer reduction being a big help.

A 3 inch straight through exhaust and a Dp Chip should give you enough power for 35's need min 3 inch lift and take front mudflaps off
