Pwr Steer pump - TB42 vs 304
Pwr Steer pump - TB42 vs 304
Bought a calais yesterday with a 304 I want to chuck into my gq.
I see Marks make an adapter to use a TB42 pump instead of the 304 stocker.
I assume it is to overcome a prob of some sort?
Or not?
So will the factory 304 pump enable me to happily turn corners all day (GU steer box and PWR cooler)?
Yes I realise I will need to get custom lines made up.

you mean the saginaw is the pear shaped pump (has integral reservoir)?Draven wrote:I 'think' thats just the old school 'pear' shaped pump.

When you say modded do you mean modify to fit or modify to increase performance/ durability or something?
the saginaws maybe higher output but is that a good thing - are the gu boxes then vulnerable to popping seals or something? Is higher output overall or just at idle?
thanks I appreciate all discussion on this

yes, i beleive the saginaw is the pear shaped PS pump. Yuri reco'd the pump and then increased the output pressure for me, its had no ill effect on the PS box at current.
I did ask Yuri why this kind of pump was prefered, and he did explain it to me, but that was a fair while ago. Basicly he said that the Holden pump had less 'seal surface area' or something, so there less seal for pressure to push through.
Im not sure im explaining right..might be worth a call to him... hes was very helpful to me and took the time out to explain things.

ok so if anyone cares- (from gregory manuals)
tb42 pump puts out 8630-9219kPa at idle
Saginaw as found on VN-VP v8's (+ more??) puts out 9300-10000kPa at idle
so i guess the numbers say saginaw is better than tb42 at turning lock to lock with big tyres at low psi then.
i suspect people buy the Marks adapter to use a tb42 pump on the holden v8 so they dont need to get new custom lines made up???
I would have thought new lines would be a cheaper option than the $$$$ adapter plate???

The main reason for puting the Marks adaptor on ,is because on some coversions the holden pump hits the steering box, as mine did, to get new hose made to suit the holden is about a couple hundred bucks, the only problem with puting the Marks adaptor on is trying to figure out how to do the air clean ,at the moment I've got a pod on for now
