just wondering has any one recently done a major service on a 4d56t td including water pump, thermostat and all the belts timing,powersteer,altnator,ect i have heard that there is two timing belts one upper one lower is this true? what is the aprox price of a job like this? also how many psi of boost do these engines run standard and what can they safley run thanx

i have been told that the motor will support 1bar safely, but that was from 4x4 excelence and i have been told to take there advice with a grain of salt

As far as I know, there is only 1 timing belt, mine is due in 40,000km....
1990 NG Paj TDI: 2.5 exhaust, 146l Longranger tank, snorkel, 2" suspension lift, 31" Bighorns.

1985 Holden Drover: 2" OME suspension & shocks, extractors, 2" exhaust, 235/75 MTR's

there is 2 belts and the most psi is about 17

Hi,

i had mines dones about 2 months ago and the full service ( water pump, all belts, hoses......... cost me $1200!!

There are two belts: timing belt, plus balance belt... while you're in there, I'd do tensioners (2) and check those oil seals for leakage. Water pump would also be a good idea, as well as accessory belts. Cost me about $400 for the parts, but I did it myself. And my money is different from yours... ;)

From the factory, it boosts up to 12 psi. Not sure what it can take...

my car goes in for a major serivice this coming wednesday, so will let you know the damage, its getting done by a mechanic i know tho so may not be the best judgement, is there anything in perticular i should get him to look at, my car has done 150k and is about to be on the market so want it to be a1, well sorta
