doesnt like to start in the morning
I have a 89 sierra with the standard g13a in it and for some reason it doesnt like to fire up on a cold morning by that i mean below 10 degrees.So far i have tried a new coil and distributer changed the plugs and set the timing correctly but it still hasnt changed.If anyone else has had this problem or has an idea how to fix it id appreciate some advice

You find with the cold weather that dying batteries will show themselves up when trying to crank first thing in the morning. The other thing to check is the battery poles, are they clean? ie: is there any corrosion affecting the connection with the terminals? Are the terminals tight? Are all the earths good? All these things can effect cranking
No, if it was bad, it will blow.
Regarding the RP7, if alls well, she be crankin etc, but still no fire in the morining, add another quick spray.
Do you start her before sunup, or really early, you may look under the bonnet n have someone crank her, that way you can see any grounding. Simple, just look for sparks, thats where your problem is.

i accually ahve the complete opposite problem with my vit
one pump in the morning and it starts first pop everytime
and during teh day no matter how many or how little pumps of pedal or revs it still wonts to crank over 3-4 times
other things worth trying is definatly what other people have been saying earths and things like that what are the conditions of your earth and power cables ? what are your points like because they can slightly change with temperature

Sounds like your auto choke may be set to close to much for those really cold mornings.
Its easy to check if this is the fault you can crank it over with your foot flat to the floor so no more fuel is administered and see if it wants to fire and then failing that just take off the intake duct and open the choke by hand while you have someone crank it over.
If the choke is indeed "choking" to much for the cold mornings it will flood and cause a no start (flooded) situation.
This would explain why "Start you bastard" did not work as it does not need additional fuel it needs less if its flooded.
If this is the case adjust the spring tension on the choke plate when the engine is dead cold and give it a try on the next cold morning and see how ya go!

I worked for almost 10 years at a very large roadservice company in nsw and I could'nt tell you the hundreds of times I heard this comment. Because it's a new battery means nothing. You can still get faulty ones. Do this to eliminate the battery from the equation. Get a multimeter and put it across your battery poles first thing in the morning. You should have a reading of about 12.4 volts. Now crank the engine. If the voltage drops below 10 volts whiulst cranking, I'd be looking at taking your battery back under warranty. Before you do though, the other thing you would want to check is the current being drawn out of the battery. Have you fitted any electrical accessories lately? If you've got an ammeter, disconnect the positive battery terminal and connect one end of the ammeter to the battery positive post and the other end to the battery terminal. If it's drawing much more than say about 0.5 amp, you have an electrical problem that is draining the battery overnight.troopy94 wrote:yeah im hearing what your saying the battery is a few weeks old and its a 420cca capacity im just wondering if the coil might not be getting enough voltage somehow
that was one of the first things i checked this morning and the multimeter showed 12.41v. It was slightly warmer this morning with less dew and it started straight away but i did drown it with rp7 before i went to bed so im going to get a spray bottle of water and spray each component under the bonnet individually and try to start it. Hopefully the problem is only moisture related
