get it setup and installed properly to the correct specs and you will hardly know its there. Mine make's barely any noise around corners. if at all.

Just about all the major aftermarket places in the states and here sell a version of the auto lockers, either lockright, detroit ez locker, 4wd systems lokka etc etc. As for how much, i paid $175US years ago. Install is simple (i am an ex mechanic) just make sure you install it correctly.

i got my locker of the lowrangeoffroad website recently a month or two ago, and paid about 250aus including shipping.
just installed it my self last saturday in the rear diff, and it is fairly easy anyone with a decent tool kit and lock tight can do it.
it is very quiet, i hardly notice it on the road and it is kick ass off road

For the people who have installed them themselves,
how hard is it to fit, you say it isnt hard, how much involved?
And what style? I.e. Lockright Rear with/without couplers?
Whats required after taking the centre out? Removing the ring gear (and spider gears if without couplers) ? what about back lashes and all other details involved in fitting? or is most of that irrelevant with the lockright?

It's easy enough because you don't do a full relash. You don't have to adjust the pinion shims or preload. When I do a diff I wind the ring gear side adjuster up until there is Zero lash and then wind the other side in until the lash is the same as it was before disassembly.paid_hitman wrote:For the people who have installed them themselves,

the adjusters are you talking about the who bolt heads that can be seen in this photo (from link above?)
and also by tensioning one to make it zero lash wouldnt then adjusting the other one just cause the bearings to have different preloads on them? it isnt going to shag out the bearings any faster and also isnt the guess-timate on the 'lash' a bit rough as far a diff longetivity is concerned?
And to those who said that its easy.... there looks to be alot involved from that detailed read through posted above, i've got all the tools just not suffient know how to confidently do a job and do it properly not jsut have to get it rebuilt 5000 clicks down the road. I'm a 4th year electritian and the most i've done myself on my zook is installing my transfer gears with new bearings. This looks MUCH more involved. Yes or No? and also more opportunities too stuff up? and also if i do stuff up is it just new bearings or will it need a new locker too?
Those two bolts on each side only hold the hemishpere bearings in place. The adjuster rings are the bit the fingers are holding in the pic.
Adjust the crownwheel side till there is no lash and then adjust the other side. This sets the preload as the pinion pushes the crownwheel away from the hemisphere..
Preolad is shared between the two bearings not all load on one.
It might not be an exact method but I've done a few diffs now and none whine or clunk.
If you do stuff up the lash setting you won't hurt the locker but may prematurely wear the CW&P.

If you can see ANY wear, it's a fair bet the side gears (couplers) have some wear too. So replace them.
