Front Diff Issue

Post by DIRTY ROCK STAR »

Outers gurus, i come seeking answers...

here is the situation.
my front diff just blew some sort of seal and has shot oil out the extended breather and abit out the hub seal it appears...
how i got here...
bought 80 diffs. got a 2nd hand locker off a reputable board member 2nd hand.
got the locker installed in the centre by a shop.
it was upside down, well the air line was comin out the bottom.
took it back got it re-done. now i have a plug in the bottom of the diff.

when diff lock was engaged both wheels spun but one side was always alot faster then the other. the rear spun the same as it should.
an 80 front diff is a open centre so it should spin one wheel or both the same. but believe me when i say one wheel was only just going, similar to an LSD.

now today a hissing sound and oil comes flying out the diff breather and look like a hub but i was in a hurry to get home before dark.

what is the problem here??
and is this related to a dodgy locker install.
or
is this just one of those unlucky things?-but if so why wasnt my locker working correctly??

cheers in advance....

Twon

sounds like the locker is not engaging properly and the seals for the locker are not sealing. the seals not sealing will cause the locker not o engage properly and could force oil out of other area's hence the axle seal and breather tube.
