MY45 ROLLS IT!

Post by glen1n »

Just got a call from adam (my45) telling me that he rolled his fj45 into a gully today. He reckons it's a complete write off! Anyone who has seen it in action knows the respect it deserves. By the way adam is fine. he'll probably get online later after he has salvaged what he can. All 4 of his brand new 37 inch MTR's burst! Thoughts out to my45 tonight and may the king of all beasts rest in peace.

He is only a young bloke (still on his Ps I think), so even if he is insured, he is gonna hurt for a while in the pocket.

Ok here's the story.....................Yesterday i was just having a bit a fun in the ranges around home, you know the usual trying to run over old burntout cars and trying the steepest hill around here. We finally got to the hill and headed down, but as we were going down i noticed a rubbing/grinding noise so i got out and checked and couldn't hear anything. So i continued to the bottom listening for noises....but there was nothing. Got to the bottom and headed back up the hill no worries. then my mate had a go but this time the noise started 1/2 way up the hill so i just said keep going to the top. About 40m's from the top the front diff input (shaft coming from the drive shaft into the diff) shaft snapped clean off and my mate started sliding back down the hill but was stopped 1/2 inch from the edge of the track about 60m's further down. So now we had to winch up to the top. The problem was that we had left the extension rope down at the cars and had no way of getting back to it (1+ hour walk), so we didn't have much cable to work with. About 15m's from the top we ran out of good trees to winch off, so we hooked on to the very base of a tree that was only about 15cm in diameter and it was actually working. At this point i thought that i was that close to the top that i could drive, so i punched it and made about 5m's when the rear wheel s lost traction. Naturaly i stoodin the brakes and pulled in the chuch waiting till the winch cought up............But the truck started sliding backwards and fast (coz it was only 2wd the front locked up but the rears didn't brake enough). The truck then slid down the hill for about 60m's (fark it was scary) when i decided to turn the truck into the bank but as i did it in such a panic i must have turned the wrong way, off the edge ot the track, rolling from rear pasanger corner up and across onto the fromt drivers corner. Rolled once or twice then back onto its wheels and slowly into a massive tree. All four beads were poped but hopefuly not busted :? And i'm definate that i owe my life to the roll bar. I'll try and get pics in the next day or two and post them. Im all ok except for 7 stickes on my right sholder (cuts from the shattering glass in the roll over), a small cut on the left of my stomach and a sore back......The rollbar was still basicly in tackt, when it rolled onto the drivers side it pulled the pipe going to the rear bar in half but the rear of the cabin is still basicly intact. :bad-words: i was lucky.

Dude, that ride sounds like a nightmare, specially for so long, you would have been movin pretty fast in that distance. Sliding back like that with the picks locked up is my pet hate.

Good thing on the roll cage, you are lucky you had one! It was well worth the effort to build and install.

At least you are ok...

Hope the tires are ok, the car sounds like it could be twisted chassis going end for end like that.

omg, Adam, what a scary, sh!tty episode! I feel so sorry for you dude. I'm glad I had the chance to see you and the mighty 45 in action, but damn, that was back on the 31's and unlocked! Best of luck with the recovery mate, hope to see you on the trails again soon enough.

Em sends her condolences as well.

Sucks mightily... but... you know, you've got lifelong legend status now. Hopefully you can recover a lot of gear from the vehicle and put it all on a new machine - especially the tyres.

Good luck.
