TD42 Fuel Screw
TD42 Fuel Screw
Hey, easy question:
In regard to the fuel govener screw on the injector pump, by adjusting in which direction it does what?????
Anti-clockwise - Increase fuel??
Clockwise - Decrease fuel??
Anyone given it a tweak to increase the fuel delivery??
How much of a turn did you give it?
Cheers,
Pete.

counter clockwise it deliverd more fuel. If you tirn the screw half a turn, you get about 10% more fuel...I've just checked theentire injection pump yesterday, at a specialised shop, and I've tried various set-ups forthepump...so finnaly I understood how this s###t is working...
But, my TD42 has a in-line injection pump, not a rotative one...

Hey Pete, dickin' with the fuel pump if ya don't know wot ya doin' can cause big grief!!DieselBoy wrote:Hey, easy question:

Leave it to the specialists buddy, they've got the right gear to monitor all the important parameters to ensure you get the best performance/economy/longevity outa ya motor!

I read it that he has fitted an inline electric fuel (diesel) pump (maybe something like a holley pump from a VL commodore) so assist the factory setup. Maybe I'm wrong.marko wrote:Clockwise increases fuel deliverey if it is a rotary ve injector pump. How much you turn the screw depends on how much boost the engine is getting. Other wise it blows lots of black smoke
Gabriel. I don't know wat engine you have but a inline injector pump on a TD42 doesn't exsit
Anyway dieselboy if you are going to "mess" with it yourself, then mark where it is at the moment, then make your adjustments only a quater of a trn at a time.
yes it is going to blow more charf that is a given but depending on what you do with the screw it will also run hotter due to the increased fuel.
Cheers

Pretty sure Gabriel is right. There was a different Injecter pump at some stage or for some environments/countrys. This was discussed when he first put the TD42 in as he was having trouble with setting it up.BIG GQ wrote:I read it that he has fitted an inline electric fuel (diesel) pump (maybe something like a holley pump from a VL commodore) so assist the factory setup. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
best post up a pic then but if we are talking about a TD42 then no. Although if somebody has proof of otherwise then please post exact details, eg year, engine, etc.
Cheers

Diesel Boy,
Winding the fuel screw in (clock-wise) increases fuel delivery.
Inline fuel injection pumps also came out on some of the earlier GQ's here in NZ too. We had one for a while before a mate bought it.....has had a turbo on it since new and just ticked over 500,000kms. Don't know what it is about the inline pump, but it is the most fuel efficient GQ I've ever driven.

Adj fuel
Just a thought
Through my experience increasing fuel only produces black smoke and more fuel usuage. No real gain unless forced induction is used I bought a MK Non turbo troll which had a factory turbo fitted but pump adjusted wrong,, bumped it up a bit,, was all sweet. ANyhoows its got a cracked head now I'll fix that one day!!

Yes they do exsit, but are as rare as hens teeth, they were fitted to the very early 1988-89 trays and to the middle eastern safaris.marko wrote:Clockwise increases fuel deliverey if it is a rotary ve injector pump. Not many got to Aust before the VE pumps became std.
P.S If you want I will post pics from factory service book to show the pump?
Hi guys!
Well, I do own a TD42 with a in-line injection pump, The car is 1993 made, has 2 oil filters, 2 fuel filters (factory fitting). The pump is a Zexel (Bosch licence), looks exactely like a SD33 pump, but has a vacuum controled regulator, plus a centrifugal regulator above the vacuum regulator. Its trouth, it is a very eficient fuel consumption...in a factory car...now, with the supercharger, more fuel, etc...its consumption is about 15-17 l/100km.
I'll try to insert a picture of the pump.
And, yes, it gave me a lot of headache until now, when I took it out, I put it on the dino and I finnaly understood how its working...
The car was made for countries like Russia, etc. Anyway, the TD42 is VERY rare engine here in Europe. I understood that there a re a few more in England, but here, in Romania, there are only 5 cars with this engine.
BTW, the car came with a PTO winch on it...;-))
Regards, Gabi
Marko, how is your car doing? Did you put the 6.2 chevy engine?[img]
Well, I've tried to insert a pic, but I really can't... When I press the small " img" button, it only insert the

pretty sure its in the bible but anyway.... get a pyro before you go playing to much though.. more fuel = more heat - more heat = melted pistons cracked heads, burnt valves, snapped rods, siezed mains ect....

Don't!
Take it to a GOOD diesel tuner.
Timing of the fuel delivery is critical to good power development. Just twisting that screw will dump more dumb diesel into it. Unless you can do it yourself take it to a proper diesel tuner who can set it up to suit the boost you want to run - you'll get better power, economy and reliabilty doing it this way.
Unless you take it somewhere who aren't very good at what they're doing like I did. I suspect the mob I went to aren't much chop at tuning naturally aspirated diesels.
