fibregalss panels for sierra?
fibregalss panels for sierra?
Hi all, I searched through the forum to see if I could find any info on some fibreglass panels, but couldn't find much ... Does anybody know of anywhere where I may be able to get some fibreglass panels for my 1985 Holden Drover? One of my doors rattles to the point where it sounds as though it is going to fall off, and the tailgate rattles a fair bit too. If I was to get some new panels it would be doors and a tailgate (possibly the guard panels also). I would love a new rear bar similar to the one I saw on http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/sambumpers.htm (ShrockWorks rear bar with tyre carrier and jerry can holder) and if I was to get something like that, I could remove the spare tyre from the tailgate and replace it with a lighter weight fibreglass tailgate. I don't know if there is anybody who can point me in the right direction, or whether this would be impossible or illegal for me to do. Any input would be much apprieciated!
Thanks,
Sam
Thanks,
Sam

East Coast Fibreglass in Qld does some 'glass for suzukis, but it's pretty dear.
I don't think doors or tailgates are good candidates for 'glass - they're complex, closed box sections that will be hard to mould accurately, and would be very expensive. Doors in particular - retaining regulators, handles, bailey channel etc = nighmare.
I don't think these parts would be illegal in themselves done in glass - Sierras (pre coiler) don't have any intrusion bars in them so there's no structural element in the door.
Personally, I'd say search for some doors in better nick. Tailgate rattles will be due to poor alignment.
Have a think about weight. You're going to add a tyre carrier that's heavier than the tailgate, then fit a lighter tailgate? Overall, you'll add weight.
Steve.

Really it depends on the panels themselves, with sierra panels being made out of coke cans I'd be inclined to think fibreglass ones would be heavier.lump_a_charcoal wrote:I was always under the impression that Fglass was heavier than regular panel, is this correct? Some datto 1200 ones I had were way heavier than the original ones...
