Ok I got a Gu diff and putting my GQ centre into it.
The axles are to long now and hitting a plate in the centre of the air locker it self.
Any ideas on what to do has any one had this problem???
I was thinking cut axles down or is this plate in centre of locker removable? They are very old air lockers mid to early 90s
Thanks

I think you can either cut 5 - 10 mm off the axles or fit 'GU' style pins that hold the planetary gears. (two pins instead of a long single one)...
Ive got a mate that just cuts his axles down and has never had a issue..

just shave a tad of the axles for an easy fit.michael a wrote:Has any one tried using the GQ axel on the GU CV joint instead of cutting down. I was hoping that this may work as need to get car running tonight.
Make sure you dont heat them up to much when you are cutting them.

As people have said either shave your axles or get the spider gear pins changed. ARB sell the parts to do the pin change which is the best solution (ARB may even fit it for you or recommend someone who can). I shaved my axles by about 5mm per side and never had any problems but if I broke a CV I needed to separate the axle from the broken CV and re-use, or if I ever needed to replace an axle then I would have to repeat the axle shortening.

Dont cut the axles, pull the locker apart and throw away the spacer in the middle that floats on the spider gear shaft, it's the only difference between the lockers, mine has been like that for 12 months with 325 rwkW, I have have brocken 3 Gu CV's, a front tailshaft but the front locker is still 100% a OK.

cutting axle is a nasty cheap arse way of doin it. you need to strip the locker and remove the spacer in the guts. the GU axles will slide straight in. it takes bugger all if ya know what your doin.
