hid light inserts

Post by ajsr »

hey all
may be a stupid question but
but will it hurt my polycarb lenses on my ford courier if I convert lights to hid
was hoping to go 4500k 55watt h4 hi/lo
does hid produce more heat or uv and wreck the lense???
Ive got philips 80% plus 55/60watt globes in it now and the lights are still plain shithouse
ive been told by bursons that i cant go any bigger on the globes as halogen runs to hot and will wreck the outer lense
my spots are good but you cant run them all the time and I live in an outer area no street lights etc
85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers, ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.

Should be fine but just check with the supplier of your HID kit, as most I know are "UV Cut" which stops the Ultra Violet radiation, and that is what is what stuffs up polycarbonate lens.

HID's only run at around the 130 to 150 degree mark.
130 watt halogens (h3) run at 590 to 600 degree's.
The above UV comment is dead set correct.

Just be aware that ya 55watters will be illegal (ADR77/78), due to:
1. No auto levelling device on headlights
2. No washers on headlights
3. 4500k is above the legal 4300k limit
4. 55w is above the 35w legal limit.
5. Your headlight housing design may not conform to ADR77/ADR78.

...but other than that, go for it!
It is highly unlikley that you will get pinged if your low-beam is set correctly and you don't dazzle oncoming traffic.
