just a quick question,
running a stroked 3.5, with 200TDi defender xfer and disco v8 ZF auto, 33's, curious as to what others' rpm's are at 100kph? and tyre sizes, etc. I'm sitting on around 2900ish.

not sure grimace, thats why me be asking - thought it was a little high, thought one of the more 'informed' members (to help the lesser - me)could deduce what my xfer ratios were, being a 86' fender 200 TDi?

Well considoring there is no such thing as an 86 defender (The Defender was not released until 1989/1990), and the 200 TDi didn't come out till the Discovery was released in about 1989, it must have been either a 2.5 diesel or 2.5 Turbo diesel. All 4 cylinder Land Rovers (Except for isuzu) were fitted with a 1.6:1 high range transfer case, but even then your RPM sounds a little high. My 84 90 with 1.6:1 LT230 with an LT77 gearbox sits on 2500 RPM at 100 kph, and that is with 255/85R16's. well it has defender badges on it and is a 1986 - private import, obviously. although i must be wrong, was just presuming someone hadn't gone to the trouble of putting factory stickers on it.
it may not have been a 200 tdi then, i was just told (haven't really even thought about it) that the original motor was a 200 TDi. it did have a LT77 before the ZF too.

Yeah I was wondering what others are getting as well. Mine being an 88 4.2 stroker with zf and Lt230 transfer and 33's sits at about 1800 at 100km/h. Stupid thing kicks into 4th gear at 80km/h then it does 1100 rpm and is gutless. I think im actuall getting worse fuel consumption cause it revs to low, and need wider throttle openings to keep going. Mind you it sits at 120-130 comfortably and pulls up hills better. I was told it also has 4.11, but can't confirm.

Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
1800 sounds a bit low for a small engine pushing a brick with lots of drivetrain friction - would be surprised if it had 4.11's - had a play with your numbers on my gearing spreadsheet and my money would be on std gearing eg 3.54's.oops wrote:Yeah I was wondering what others are getting as well. My stroker is doing about 2500 with 31's and LT95. I wouldnt want it be reving much less but you can get away with taller gearing with an auto.
my bad its actually registered as a '88, but private import plate says its an '87, i thought the defenders were the first with the push button style handles, not the flush lift up style like countys? No, the Land Rover was renamed the Defender in 1990. My brother and parents both have 1989 Land Rover 110 Counties and my brother in law has a 1988 Land Rover 110 County. I'd actually be thankful that it is not a Defender, as that is when things started to go down hill.
