UHF / Auto Electrics

ANYWAY,
I'm building an over head console. It will have a UHF, interior lamp, and 2 ciggie lighters. I would like to wire the UHF (and preferably the ciggies) to the ignition switch if possible, but will the accessories wire be strong enough to power these?
At first everything was going to run of a 25amp wire with a fusable link off the battery. The wire would go to a fuse block with all units running off a seperate fuse. But I'd like to have the UHF turn off through the ignition so I don't leave it on.
But when I think of a car stereo, there is a wire for the main power and a seperate one for ignition which makes me think i cannot do it.
I'm not sure what sort of power the UHF draws but it's the UNIDEN UH088 Sundowner with the speaker in the front.
I hope this all makes sense and I have given you enough information.

Two ciggie lighters to light ciggies or to power other stuff?

Anyway, somewhere on the UHF it should say how much current it draws. Then same for the light and you can just add them all up to work out what's required.

Either way, I reckon you would want to run a battery power cable, and an accessories cable up, and set it up so that the UHF goes off when you turn the ignition off, but with an override switch for if you want to use the UHF with the ignition off for some reason.

For running other stuff. Dunno what yet, but just coz I can.
Thats the way i'd like to do it, just not sure how add the ignition wire. know what i mean? I have a switch in the dash to run the accessories without the key. Its fantastic.

use a relay. run main power for the relay from the battery and switch the relay from accesories

sounds like the sort of thing i'm after. and an auto shop such as repco or auto sparky sell these relays?

yeh most auto shops will have tham. ask for a 4 or 5 pin 30/40A relay. they will charge you between $10 - $20 which i think is a rip but unless you got conections, its bad luck.
there will be four numbers on the relay 30, 87, 85, 86 for yur wire connections

30 fused battery
87 goes to your devise (cb or lights or radio ect ect)
85 connect to your accesories switched 12v+
86 connect to a GOOD earth
