Hey mate ive been looking into it too..

Ironman kits go for about $1200 if you ask the right people.. but the problem with 2" leaf spring lift is they get the lift by having more curve and more curve means less articulation..
Therefore ive gone the 2" extended shackles got my lift (really only a inch and a half) and kept or improved articulation.
Just my opinion..

Cheers Craig.

what craig says is true more curve less articulation. ive got 2" efs kit and 2" ext shackles. not sure on the ironman kit but imo the efs kit flexs quite well and has a good compromise between flex and height.

NB to get better flex with ext shackles you MUST move the mounts on the rear and front closer to the centre the engine other wise your shackles will only add height instead of flex. also change your shocks too otherwise you will rip the sleeving out of your shocks and your shocks will also limit your flex as well.

heaps of stuff on mq lifts and shackles, so use the search. dont cut corners and you will enjoy the result

cheers

Ahk cool, yeh because i dont really want to do a body lift just because i dont like the gap between all the bars looks shit in my opinion and only want to fit 33's nicely so 2 inch leaf lift should be good

Ive put superior engineering 2" extended shackles on my stock springs without moving the mounts.. While moving the mounts will further improve articulation its still better than the standard shackles.. and will do until im game enough to start cutting and welding shit!

And im with you on the body lift.. seems pointless to me.. ill just cut the guards when i put 33"s or bigger under mine..

ironman

Post by Sterlo »

Ironman springs are not the best,, So soft in fact that 10 leaves in the front sagged with sd33 in about 3 months. But a soft spring is comfortable and will flex the best along with longer shackles.

The following is MQ wagon packs with longer main leaves & more set to get the high. Craig is on the money the flatter the packs the better the articulation.. I think what i have is ok due to cheap soft springs. I think i can get a lot more drop with longer shocks... one day drop shackles $$... This was a real buget build..

The iron man kit was about 1200$ with the longer leaves. ANybody heading out round melbourne area soon??

Turbo

The springs were about 4-5 inches over.. but i have reset the f**kers so many times its not funny, made up my own spring press to do it. But i find although the spring has a bit of curve it still flexes well is good to ride. Shackles are 2' longer 75ser. yota ones with the pins turned down... looks shit house but i got them for nothing so i made use of what i had..

I have heard the efs are very similar prob better mate.. i wouldnt recommend ironman to anyone if u want to fit and 4get...

oh yeah she sitting on 35's,, i'll go for 37's - 38's next time... dont think the sd33t will turn them but!!!!!!

Since we are talking about leaf spring kits for a MQ/MK what about stock leafs from other cars that could fit and improve articulation/height? has anyone done it?

is it a bit too much to ask for something so convenient and most likely cheaper!!

you will either need to do a spring lift or a body lift to fit 33's.

screwy put ifs rear springs in the front of his ute. but it was SOA

you might be hard pressed to find springs that have similar width to mq/mk springs. if you dont find similar width esp @ the eyes as you will have to make up some custom shackles so the eye of the springs doesnt swim around along the pin of the shackle

Craig Im in kingsbury, near LaTrobe uni,, from QLD originally but down this way for a few years,,
Only just finished the shute and drove it down a month or so ago... 3000Km in it shit!!!! but can average 10km/liter.. Wouldnt mind getting it out,, still standard drive line no diff locks or anything.. yet may get a mig locker

If only i was in QLD at the oldies,, i have an ever increasing collection of 24v starters, regs and alternators!
