What do you run as your tow rig?
Im looking at selling the wifes zook and getting a tow rig.
What are peoples thoughts on the 6.5litre Chev Diesels?
I know a bloke that has a GQ wagon for sale with a 6.5 and LPG fumigation for sale for 10 grand.
A lot of people are telling me the big V8 diesels are a bit of a lemon.

Tow rigs

Mate i drove a 6.5 turbo in a 8o series it was awsome it had so much torque and heaps of power, and just remember how many builders u see loaded up to the hill and towing a trailer in those v8 diesel f trucks that should tell u some thing. And the gq sounds cheap because thats a 20 thousand dollar conversion drive in drive out.
Mate i think you should give me all the contact details for the patrol
,you would be serriously crazy if you didn'y buy it because as said it is a 20 grand conversion.
Our tow rig after next week will be a 16 ton hino turbo diesel so no more driving our rigs to and from the park.

THE GRASS MAY BE GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT YOU STILL GOTTA MOW IT.
The chev engines have nothing in common with the ford powerstrokes.Big_GQ wrote:Mate i drove a 6.5 turbo in a 8o series it was awsome it had so much torque and heaps of power, and just remember how many builders u see loaded up to the hill and towing a trailer in those v8 diesel f trucks that should tell u some thing. And the gq sounds cheap because thats a 20 thousand dollar conversion drive in drive out.
Here's some light reading.

The TD42 sounds like a much better option for a nissan. For a toyota the 1HD-FT.
Re: Tow rigs
depends on what your towing, how often and where you go.ausyota wrote:What do you run as your tow rig?

around here very few people use the big yank tanks. way to hungry on fuel, lousy offroad and when it comes to shifting big weight its cheaper just to use a real truck which has lifting gear on it which it so much easier to unload.
have a look at most middle to big trucks, how many run V8's?? very few. i would stick to 6 cyl unless you just want something a little different. by the sounds of it the TD42 is more reliable and proberly far easier to get parts etc for.
They demonstrate the issues with them as worse than the ZD30!!KiwiBacon wrote:The chev engines have nothing in common with the ford powerstrokes.Big_GQ wrote:Mate i drove a 6.5 turbo in a 8o series it was awsome it had so much torque and heaps of power, and just remember how many builders u see loaded up to the hill and towing a trailer in those v8 diesel f trucks that should tell u some thing. And the gq sounds cheap because thats a 20 thousand dollar conversion drive in drive out.

Those chev V8 diesels are pretty pathetic power/torque for a 6.2 litre engine. Indirect injection makes for a big fuel economy penalty too.Big_GQ wrote:IM just saying the power and torque a v8 diesel puts out as in thats why u see Brickys and builders using v8 cruisers and f trucks over a 4 cyl petrol hilux because they can handle the loads and tow well.
Duramax, sure that's impressive. But it's an Isuzu.
