WILL IT SNAP ???

Post by ajsr »

Just changed my narrow track to wide track while I have all the internals apart Im fitting a front lock right
whats the likelyhood of snapping the axle with the lock right and a stock 1.6 motor 32's SPOA I drive mostly mud I have brifield rings to fit try to Keep cv intact

OR should I just go to heavier axles ,cv's and rear side gears??(dont really want to spend the cash zooking is getting expensive)
85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers, ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.

it may, depends on how forgiving a driver you are. even with birfield rings I thing the CV would still be the weak point. I dont think you would be replacing them often enough to bother upgrading. just carry a spare.

snappage is dependant on gearing. if it is geared correctly it won't be much of a problem, but if nothing has been done, than yes, you will have dramas.

I consider myself a mechanically sympathetic driver (IE: Easy on the car) and my left CV only lasted 3 weeks after I fitted an air locker.
I have now upgraded to CrMo axles & cv's.

It'll break IMHO. I have no experience with rings but I still think you'll smash the cage/inner axle regardless.

PS what tyres?

I run 31" BFG's with birfield rings & 6.5's. I do not give it heaps except when 2wd playing in mud. I am locked front & rear and generally only crawl any rocky surfaces. Haven't had any dramas as of yet. With the locker in the front you will not need to give it heaps all the time when climbing hills etc. Carry a spare with you if you are worried.
