G'day to all, I've been thinking about fitting a liquid to air intercooler to my 3.0 Lt turbo Hilux. It already has LPG injection and a 3" mandrell bent exhaust from the dump pipe to to the tail pipe. I've had it one the dyno to check EGT's with gas on and gas off. The EGT will in both cases exceed 550 Deg C no problem if you let it and I have been told that this figure is the bench mark and not to exceed it. What I'm after is a temp probe I can purchase to instal in my inlet manifold before I intercool it so I know a before and after temp of inlet air. but I'm having trouble finding a suitible probe and guage any assistance would be appreciated.

Solutions range from very cheap indoor/outdoor thermometers up to whatever you want to spend.

How much boost are you running? That determines the temp range of the probe. How much do you want to spend?

K type thermocouple and and cheapish multimeter... my $20 jaycar one does this, just need a few extra thermocouples that are rated. Id say 150degC would be a huge inlet air temp so work from there..

Thanks for the feedback fellas, I would be prepared to spend a decent amout as I would like to have it as a perminent mod, to answer your question Kiwibacon I'm running 14psi boost, 3psi over standard

14psi will give you turbo outlet temps around the 100C mark. So a water temp gauge would work but probably won't react that quickly. Don't know if that bothers you.

K type thermocouples as suggested above are a great idea, but I don't know if you'll get a nice looking reader with the scale you want. K types are also used in pyros for EGT readings, but the scale is too high in the automotive gauges.
Plenty of industrial K type readers around, but finding one to look like a nice permanent installation might be tricky.

Hi I used a jaycar temp switch kit (need to build not to hard ) http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.as ... &SUBCATID= with digital readout I have the liquid to air barrel removed at the moment running 20psi see around 140-150c at inlet, if you are up it for a while.
with two 4x6 barrels mounted side by side seem to have a consistant halved inlet temp at 100kph about 8psi around 80-100c with out cooler & 40-50 with cooler, temp fluctuates very quickly without intercooler
have two small thermo fans mounted on radiator with the temp switch set at 50c switces them from series to parallel to give me half speed so they are not so noisey when idling
obviously ambeint temperature has some effect aswell, figures at around 30c ambient
I also used a couple of multimetres from jaycar for initial set up experiments like +dj mentioned just shoved the thermocouple wires between the hose and pipe clamped them up and stuck the multi under the widscreen wiper blade and read through the windscreen
it was only temporary!
