jimny auto / g16b baleno compatability?
jimny auto / g16b baleno compatability?
Im just enquiring if any one knows if the auto from a g13bb jimny will talk to and work 100% correctly with a g16b from a baleno? ie the computers will talk to each other in the right language? I can get one for a good price but would like to make sure before i pay out the dosh
i doubt it, but also you would need a benT adapater to mate them together(im guessing).
Ive just finished putting in a M13A and auto into a sierra, still yet to test run, but works ok up on jackstands.

the jimny auoto's are famous for small bugs. the vit auto is a proven box and you should be able to pic one up cheaper than a jimny box. all you will need is an adaptor for the jackshaft such as the diagram below which is easier than adapting to the motor. and if its an early baleno the computers should be fine.

Yes, it could be done but I wouldn't recommend it as they are not designed to handle that sort of power. Parts are only available from Suzuki for them too. The AW4 from the Vit is a much better choice if can make it fit.

if you want headaches go the jimny auto, if you don't want headaches go the vit auto. and shop around they are pretty cheap.

Bear in mind tanshi that the AW-4 from the vitara will require tunnel work and you'll have to move the transfer case back if you want an acceptable jackshaft length.
The AW-4 is a very nice auto though, especially as it has a 2.4:1 converter ratio and an overdrive.
The last conversion I did though was with a baleno coil pack 1.6 and a carby vitara trimatic as they are cheap, easily buildable, and allow an acceptable jackshaft length with the transfer case in the stock spot. There's no electronics either. This car drives VERY well.
A three speed is a nightmare to gear in a sierra though if you also want deep gearing offroad. That car runs a S4 Rockhopper and 3.9 diffs and still pulls nearly 4k @ 100 km/h with 35.5" tyres on it. It''s very nicely geared offroad though.
I've built a car with a jimny auto (and a G13BB) and it seems to be a good little auto - it's acutally shorter than the 1.3 manual (!) and with a big cooler heat doesn't seem to be a problem - we've seen a maximum of about 105˚C. However, as has been pointed out, they won't take more power than stock, and need an adapter to bolt to a 1.6 anyway, and there's no upgrade parts or even any expertise with them anywhere. They are unique to the 1.3 jimny and 660 jimny, and appear to have been designed primarily for the 660.
Oh, and a replacement is $8500 from suzuki. (Not a misprint- $8500)

i basically only asked as i currently have the 1.6 bolted up to a sierra 5 speed and thought if it was easy enough i would fit it up. I am planning on putting it behind a g13bb in an lj81 ute. but this being a long term build my sierra is the car im driving at the moment. the vitara auto would involve far too much tunnel work in one of those

The Jimny auto will still need you to cut the tunnel - it is fatter than the sierra 5 speed and the shifter on the side of the auto will foul the body.
You will definately need the adaptor plate, or a new hole drilled in the G16 to fit the gearbox - just like any other 1.3L gearbox to 1.6L engine mating. Though i'm not sure about the the amount spine you will have once you put an adaptor plate in there.
Strength wise - for $350, suck it and see... if it works - it will be awesome - if it doesn't, your sierra 5 speed will bolt straight back into the hole, or you can do the work and get the AW4 in there...
Computers wise - not 100% sure... but it is likely. Score yourself the service manuals for the two cars and have a look at the expected voltages etc...
