Cheap 33" tyres for trailer
Howdy all
I currently run 33 x 12.5 BFG muddies on my rangie and I want to put the same size tyre on my off road trailer, but I am not keen on forking out $300 each for trailer tyres (need 3).
Anyone suggest an alternative mud type tyre in 33 x 12.5 x 15 and where I can get them in Brisbane?

I'd use a narrower tyre with less rolling resistance IMHO (like a 7.50 R16) unless you wanted to match to have access to extra spares.
I can't see an advantage in a 12.5" wide trailer tyre. The reduction in floatation will more than be made up by the reduced power required to drag the narrower tyre.
On top of that, 12.5's (on, I guess 8" rims) will be mch harder on your bearings- never traditionally a trailer strong point.
Just my 2C - feel free to ignore this to suit your own requirements.

Thanks Steve...I currently run 33 x 10.5 on a 7 inch rim on my trailer and wanted to just match the tow vehicle and change over to 33 x 12.5 on an 8 inch rim....
but...I am still running the 45mm round axle, standard LM bearings and slippers springs. I am planning on an axle/ spring upgrade in the near furture. The trailer is just a 6 x 4, and used for camping gear. It has done a lot of hard work (Plenty Highway, Boorooloola etc) and I have never had a problem with springs breaking or bearing failure.
I understand that the wider rim/tyre combo would place added stress on the bearing...but I just didn't realise how much.

Maxxis (all terrain) 751 Bravo 33x12.5x15 around $210 If you go, speak to Dave and tell him Mick sent ya These prices may not be the same but he'll look after you. (at the time i bought the 751's Dave was $30 cheaper per tyre than the cheapest quotes i got elsewhere) He has always looked after me unlike the wankers that where there when he was on holidays, they weren't so helpful

i would suggest running the same tyre all round, that way, if you get more than 1 flat you can swap to a matching tyre using the trailer spare, and if your lucky enough to get another-nother you can ditch the trailer and take the spare off that to get you out of trouble..

86 mud, i'm looking at doing the same, best option as stated is getting some 33 x 10.5's for the trailer - same dia as your rig but less drag, etc
i haven't done it yet but best place to try is to ring around all the tyre mobs and see what second hand tyres they have lying around, except fourbys at moorooka, i've tried them and no luck.
only problem with a 33 x 10.5 is they are not a common size and not many manufacturers make them. have you checked if they will sit outside your guards much on the trailer? cause then you may need extended flares as well? apart from dept tranniesport, they will flick crap all over ya trailer, and possibly be well outside the track of your rangie.

I am currently running 33 x 10.5 BFG muddies on a 7" rim. Same stud pattern as the Rangie. I am using a 300mm wide guard that covers the tyre well. The trailer also has the same axle width as my truck.
I did a photo shoot with 4WD Action back in July, with the trailer so you will see it whenever that edition of the mag comes out.
If i add the 8" rim (with a 25mm offset - same as my truck) I will have to widen the guard. I will probably end up just using garden edging as I did on my truck.

I run 33"x12.5's on my Camper trailer But opted for a 7" rim with an IFS offset so as the tyres stayed Inside the Gaurds & Limited the the strain on the Bearings. As these are only trailer tyers 7" rims are fine, But if there to be used on a truck you would definatly need 8" rims, But Can still use as an Extra spare on my Patrol if there is no other option & only going Short distance.
