recycling ideas

Post by GQ Bear »

I've got a couple of handy devices i use for the fourby from recycled stuff.

1) 12V drill

I had a crapped out battery on my el cheapo GMC 14.4V cordless drill. So i ripped the guts out of it and connected a couple of 4mm wires with alligator clips to the terminals.
Now it's a handy 12V drill that can be attached to car battery for all sorts of bush repairs. I can still use the other battery at home as a functional cordless drill.

2) Battery jumper cables

I had a set of heavy duty Hella jumper cables, but i wanted to move my winch solenoids to inside the engine bay. So i cut them to desired length, crimped larged terminals to ends and wired it all up.
Then i was left with some very short and pretty much useless jumper cables. I've also had about 18m of welding lead laying around for years. So i cut it in half and crimped each end to the heavy duty hella alligator clips and now i have an awesome set of 9m long heavy duty jumper cables for when your stuck in those tricky situations.

3) 12V oil syphon pump

My in-tank fuel pump had given up on life and wasn't pumping adequate fuel pressure, so i replaced it. As ther was still some life left in the old pump i've placed it in a container with a length of hose from manual siphon pump, and wiring with alligator clips to car battery.
Servicing the 4by is no longer such a PITA. No more hand pumping to fill diffs, gearbox and tranny. Electric pump sucks the oil up no worries and makes light work of a prick of a job.

Where did you get that idea??? ;)

Don't jumper cables generally have a positive and a negative cable?

I wasn't claiming it as my own.

But there you go guys. Tried and proven in 2006 Piranha pursuit when we lost a nut on front panhard rod and lost panhard rod. Ruffy drilled a small hole through bolt and inserted an r-clip. All fixed in no time and back to racing.

Last winter my exhaust busted off and was dangling. Too much rooting around to remove bent up rear section of exhaust, so i cut it in half with drill and discarded thoughtfully.
