Because the one in the US video was built by the owner.

The ones from Thailand are built in thailand for the local market only. There's lots of third world vehicles, like the Toyota Kijang - (everywhere in Asia)- that couldn't be sold as passenger vehicle in Australia for a number of reasons - ADR compliance, emissions, inadequate power, features etc.

We sourced our passenger complianced Suzuiki's from Japan. The Indian built maruti's are plated commercials and couldn't meet passenger ADR's, which is why they were only sold as utes. You'd have the same problem with a thai built Sierra.

The third world market needs the cheapest suitable car. Example - 2WD Gen 3 ( early-mid 1990's) hiluxes were available in China with leaf springs and a beam axle in the front, a carby 1.8 litre motor and a 4 speed gearbox - a combination we haven't seen the australia in a hilux since the mid-late 1970's. That car wouldn't sell in australia, and wouldn't pass emissions or most likely every other ADR.

Japanese LWB 1.3 sierras weren't even cheap as a 4 seater - they were pretty close to petrol 4 Runner money in 1985. As a 4 door hardtop? unless it also had a 1.6 EFI, better rear brakes, higher GVM... I can't see it being viable. (quite apart from not meeting passenger ADR's)

The 5th group of photo's ( 2 with square flares and 2 with round flares) was taken in Bali, there were some really good looking 4 door sierras over there. How do I know! I took those photo's

Last trip I was asking where I could find a Suzuki dealer, to see if I could get some cheap badges, the driver said he would sell me a Katana, worked out he roughly wanted $400 for it. Though this was the 2WD version.

I snapped a couple last time though didn't want to stop other wise I would have been hassled to hire them again... If only I could have found the guy with the Red TJ Jeep again with 38''s to hire again.

2WD - Love the tire covers... Still leaf front but just a beam axle.
