DYNO SHEETS Duramax GU, NEW MOTOR ARRIVED 23/4/10
Hey mate,
Yeah the drag thing is just temporary (maybe). Just depends how hard it is to get into the 11s. If it is easy enough, them maybe a 10s pass. Who knows really.
The drivetrain is mostly standard for now. Allison 6 speed auto with a nissan transfer case. Standard diffs with 4.11 gears.
See what breaks first really, then do something.
Cheers Heath

time slip
From the weekend, was spinning all 4 wheels. 60ft times are slow as hell.
But it was practice, I cant stage it that well because the brakes are so crap it wont hold it on the line. Plus the converter is not loose enough to build any decent revs and boost for good 4wd launchs.

Which one is one yours. Keep up the work. Try launching in 2wd. Maybe you need a trans brake. Nitrous will help it spool.
There are plenty of gm running 11s in the states. Have you done any editing to the computer??

time
Hey andy
I did the 13.11.
I tried 2wd and smoked the tyres to half track, it ran a 13.6.
I had no doubt that a 11 is possible i just have to sort out the setup.
I use efilive for tuning the truck, i was also playing with shift points in the auto. I was launching in 2nd gear, i deleted 1st in the computer so i could build more boost on the line.

Thats a fair time, nothing to be sneezed at. Ive heard very good things about efi live, just a matter of learning it and testing to see what it does. If only they could make it for toyotas and nissans. Seems the drag calculator was only .17 sec out and 1.3 mph out.
Sounds like you will need better tyres/traction. They say a drag race is won or lost in the 60ft times.

ozy1 wrote:so has this thing been streeted on a daily basis? if so whats the fuel economy like?
ill let heath give the figures as he has had some more driving time and it may have changed....but just over a month ago when i went for a ride the figures surprised me, marginally more than my td42t.....but giving it an absolute floggin!!!!!. easily improved.
the beauty is being such a big motor from a big truck, putting it in a 2200kg ute means it doesnt need to work hard. plenty of torque helps keep fuel down.

no daily drive
No it has not been daily driven.
hot rodding around town taking mate for drives its getting about 15.2L per hundred. Which i think is awesome considering the power and i am flogging it stop start. Costing more in tyres at the moment then anything.
When i get the chance to drive some miles i will report. Its just hard with all the power not to get into when you can. Plus fuel economy can be achieved with a different tune. And it was not a consideration when i built it, power was the objective.

traction
traction is a huge problem, I am running 315/75/16 cooper st on nissan ti alloys.
The suspension is stock nissan gu shocks with GU standard front springs and soft GQ short wheel base rear springs.
For drag racing i run the rear locker, 4 HI and the tyres at rears at 16psi and the front at 22psi for traction.
It ran a 13.0 at willowbank on the weekend but it turned the tyres in 1st and 2nd.
I am looking at ordering a set of slick today. In the 33/10.5/16 size.

Either get a set of semi slicks all round or full slicks and front runners and run in 2wd. Full slicks and 2wd will get you faster but you may have fun getting some front runners to suit yor car.
I garuntee your traction issues will dissappear with slicks or semi slicks granted that you do a big burnout. Did you do a burnout on the coopers?

Do they still make that Lovealls case. Bit like the atlas but built in airshift.ozy1 wrote:didnt think of that, killalux wrote:The chevy transfer has the front output on the passenger as opposed to nissan on the drivers.
Team Red Bull Rockracing/crawling where running them at one stage.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
I think the lovell case defaults to neutral if the air pressure is removed - not really ideal for a road/trail car - i.e you can't lock it in gear without it being under constant air pressure. It's a 100% competition case.
Also, I think it's only real advantage is very quick/smooth digs/burns. I don't imagine heathgu is going to be doing much of that. I have a rear disconnect on my sierra and it's ony marginally useful.
Steve.

Mate if you really want 11's, You'll need a transbrake.
Also as above you need 90/10 shocks.
As you have said slicks are needed but be prepared for breakage (more so if you have a transbrake/susp sorted/slicks).
By the way my prediction on mph was spot on....
Great stuff mate.
P.s .........video footage of your runs would be awesome.
