I was actually thinking this myself, but wasn't sure if it happened on Suzukis. I've ever only seen it on the old m20 and m21 Holden boxes. I had a 308 Torana it used to happen to all the time. The only way I could get that thing to go back into gear was to selct 1st and drop the clutch. Used to let out an almighty bang, but it worked.Gwagensteve wrote: B) If the box is jammed, it's possible you've pulled 2 gears at once. I've had this happen to me. From memory "neutral" was 4th and I couldn't get anything except reverse which just jammed the box and stalled the car. Seen it happen with a cruiser too.

Sloppy shifter fix
Really? The ONLY way?
I don't think I'd do that. popping all the the rails back into neutral has worked for me.
Steve.

I've struggled and sturggled and to no avail can I move those bastards. I can bolt the shifter back in and it only moves side to side between the two rails on the right but neither will move back or forwards (it just bends the shifter). With the shifter off I have tried moving them with various tools, the best I found was a socket extension Bar which slots in nicely to the groove but still wont budge. I have tried rocking it back and forwards in high and low and starting it in gear and dropping the clutch.
Looks like a new box for me. I just rang one bloke who quoted $550 for a "good second hand" box, anyone know somewhere cheaper? Or should I be getting mine repaired?
Also how hard are they to replace (*looks up workshop manual*) as I have never removed a gearbox before or changed a clutch, do I have to stuff around with the clutch at all?

The box will come out and go back in without need to touch the clutch. The only thing you will need to do is drop the cable off. It might pay to drop the clutch out anyway to check it, cos it's a bit of work to get the box out.
It sounds like the box needs to come apart. One of the detent balls may have come adrift and jammed the linkages? Or something has broken internally. It would be interesting to split the box to see what has gone wrong once you have swapped.
There are second hand boxes around cheaper than that, they usually go for around the $150 mark privately (unknown condition and no warranty though)

ok well all is well. With more time to think about it I thought if it's in 5th it's gotta be the left rail. out not the other two. I hadn't touched it thinking it was reverse and not wanting to jam it in reverse. So I pushed it forward (easy) and it's now in nuetral
Re-greasing shifter and locktighting all bolts as that was the problem, bolts came loose.
