BODY LIFT
BODY LIFT
Okay i know everyone is getting tired of all these lift questions but i spent 3 hours last night going through old posts and could not find the information i was chasing.
My questions are simple
1. 2" or 3" What is better i would probally limit myself to 33's.
2. Does it make the car unsafe??
3.How hard is it to do?? Days job?? Weekend job???
Thats pretty much it
Thanks
Marc

Re: BODY LIFT
www.gqpatrol.com theres a how to and answers there.
2inch will do 33's. 3inch would be better.
No - requires engineers though.
3/4 of a day we did 2 cars (sort of both at once)....

Personally 3inch body lifts look stupid regardless. U have to hack bullbars to match (otherwise the across bars on the bullbar are in the way of headlights), just a pain in the arse. They cause clunks and moans and stuff, Im pissing my body lift off, and fitting new body mounts.
How does it drive, no real difference, your not changing the suspension or anything.
IMHO, You should go with a good 3inch suspension lift. OME is good.
If you cant afford it, wait and do it properly. Its Well worth doing things right first time. Under $1000 will get you a 3inch suspension lift.
Shark wrote:Yeah but everyone that i have called tells me that the lift isnt really a good idea in a swb because of the vibrations?? I dont knom who to believe!!!!
I want to lift my car enough so it doesnt bottom out on little stuff and looks good with 33's, THATS ALL!!!!
So what do ya think??
Marc
Dude, mate had a 4inch lift in his shorty, no casters.. Some are better than others.
3inch should be fine. Again no warranty on that, but there are heaps of other GQs with 3/4/5/6inch lifts in shortys.
Shark wrote:But what about the vibrations, dont wanna do damage to me ride, know of anyone in W.A. that can do it????

If you get vibs, its not the kind to shake your car to bits. You can use Gearbox packers from ARB, lowers the thing, thus lowering the angle on the shaft. No Vibs then. thats IF you get them. 3inch lift you shouldnt.
Have been told that some shorty's suffer from vibe probs with just a 1" lift. Mine has 2" no problems at all. Hottie Monster is getting a 3" susp kit this week, find out how he goes.
If you just want to run 33's 2"bl and 2"susp will do the job with good weel travel and little rubbing.
My body lift took about a 6 pack to install, but it was a hot day. The info on www.gqpatrol.com is good thats what I used pretty much.

Ive got a 2 inch body in my MQ,
took half a day by myself, makes little difference to driving performance, is cheap and yet gives u the clearance u need on the tyres. 2 inch means that u dont need to cut and extend things as there is enough give as long as u loosen the nessesary bits and pieces.
3 inch means the there are heaps of changes and problems with extensions etc.
Body roll makes little difference and will clear 33's for the right price.
Thats wat ur after right?

So really for the small cost and the possibility to do it yourself a 2" lift kit would be an easy way to get some 33's under your car???
The spring lift sounds like a good idea also but if extra things need to be done i dont think i have spare funds to sort them out.
Really just wanted know wether a 2" body was a good idea. Didnt want to do it and then regret it.

2inch sus or body *should* do it.
To me, suspension is better option, but more $ to buy originally. How old is your current suspension, if its sagged out and shot, 2inch will look HEAPS more....
The extra things arent much anyway, caster bushes, and G'box packers, = 1/2 of FA.
You can do body OR suspension yourself.

suspension would be easier than bodylift.
I agree suspension lift is really easy

If you're looking for optimal results, as in road handling and good looks too, go for 2" sus. lift, 2" body lift and 1.5-2" trimming.
You can fit 35" tires and look awesome.
For 33" you can forget bout the trimming.
I have that setup on my LWB, and my twin bro has it on his SWB, and they both run sweet as sugar, great flex, great road handling (make safe turns at 80-100 KM/H).
Check out the OME suspension kit, they are great.
As for the body lift, either get polyurethane blocks, or make ur own aluminum blocks.
Should take you 4-5 hours to fit them in a SWB.

You are worrying miles too much about the vibes, if they are there then they wont be unbearable. You will be able to drive to ARB and get the Gearbox spacers without a problem

A freind had vibes in his GQ ute when it got lifted, but they went away after a couple of days. He said something about the drive shaft just getting comfy with its new angles.
Start with the susp lift I ran ome 2" lift (ome coils / koni shocks) with 285/75R16 BFG muds (33") for 4yrs before the body lift got put in.
But would cost about $1000 I suppose ($200 for coils - $800 for shocks). These are only guessing you may get better prices.
Body lift will cost about $50 - 200 depending on where you get the bits from, or makes up the puc's.
Susp lift only will increase off-road ability, with clearance for 33"s.
BL onlywill allow you to run 33"s
