Help Broke my MQs hub/CV???

Post by thegrantmob »

Firstly I am a mechanical numby but keen to learn. Was out playing and after some tight gully work and a short climb out useing the front lockers the front right wheel ceased briefly. :? Stopped reversed and wheel started to turn again but with an intermitant horible clicking crunching noise  (that went away when the hubs were taken out). Worse the truck now no longer turns left.  There was enough play to limp home (Luckily most of the turns were right hand).

Question What have I Killed? With my limited knowledge I suspect I have destroyed a CV.

Like I said I am keen to learn but want to get on the right track to start with. Have a manual and am willing to have a crack at changing one if that is the problem. Apreciate any ALL help.

Busted MQ

Post by thegrantmob »

Yes I definatly Busted the CV!!!! Pulled it apart got inside the Swivel hub and started pulling out Busted Chunks of metal!!!!!!! Now just waiting on parts.

I am a mechanical numby and I am finding the MQ a great simple car to learn on. So far I have just needed the manual and some basic tools. Putting it back together will be the next challenge, but I am not in a hurry. Any tips would be apreciated.

I have ordered 2 CV's so I have a spare for when I Bust the next one. I love to play hard in my MQ, especialy now that it is locked. I get my 9000 lb winch fitted soon so can play even harder.

where in wagga did you wheel hard enough to bust a CV.

Im from there originally and i couldn't find anything worth wheeling really. there is a few spots near narranderra though.

you can get to the CV on a MQ buy removing the swivel hub seal bolts and the king pin bearings only. Then just gentle remove the whole assembly and it will rest on top og the diff/springs somewhere.

Maybe have to catch up, ill be down there camping somewhere next long weekend
