Hi All,
A friend's 1993 Discovery 3.5 V8i is pouring out water from what looks like the water pump itself. Part no. STC483.
Has anyone pulled one of these down and if so, know what part tends to need replacing? I got a mate that owns a bearing and gasket place and he'll see if he has a suitable part if it's one he can crosscheck.

Rebuilding/Servicing waterpump for '93 v8i Disco'

As far as I remember, those waterpumps aren't MEANT to be disassembled. You probably can, if you really don't want to pay the price for a new one, but I wouldn't bother.A friend's 1993 Discovery 3.5 V8i is pouring out water from what looks like the water pump itself. Part no. STC483.

If you insist on pursuing it:
Two places the water could be coming from:
A) There is a breather hole in the bottom of the pump, in behind the pulley. If its leaking there, I don't know that you could replace anything to fix it, although you could possibly TIG weld the hole up?
B) Through the seal around the shaft coming out to the pulley. IF you can get the pulley mounting piece off the shaft without f**king it beyond repair, you could probably replace the seal, providing you could find one to suit.
84 Rangie, 3 inch spring lift, 2 inch body, Megasquirted 4.6, R380, rear Maxi, 34x11.5 JT2s. Simex FM installed.
yeah ive had that happen. It turned out it was coming out of that little hole behind the pulley. I think it was a brether hole, can't really remember. I do remember that you can't just clog it up, cause it's the seal behind it. They also aren't rebuildable. For about 150 bux just get a new one for piece of mind and be done with it
When i replaced a 3.5 pump years ago i measured it against a universal replacement shaft and it looks like it will fit, they do rebuild them after all.
That hole is there to let you know there is a seal failure and pump needs replacing ( a self tapper screw in the hole will get you out of trouble if needed ), when i get around to it i will attemp to press the old shaft out and fit a new 1 to keep as a spare.
