my block is busted by beyond repairs by the machine shop
what options do i have? that wont need any modification or trimming of the tranny
and can still use the 4wd and 5.29 ratio?
can a 4g63
or a nissan sr20 do without trimming the trany or modification?

If you mean to use the standard gearbox/transfer your choices are very limited... you can run the Applause or Detomaso variants of the stock engine.
I'd think seriously about a transmission swap anyway - the stock gearbox isn't what you call strong or reliable and there are no transfer gear options
The engine design actually isn't too bad - its just too small for the vehicle and was initially designed as a passenger car engine so its also a bit low on bottom end torque. Now with some positive pressure I'm certain things would be much better.

I like the SR20DET engine... ( had a 200SX so I'm sort of biased.
However for serious off road use I think the torque of a V6 would be hard to beat. Now a VQ35DE ( 350Z ) will fit but they just aren't the right price and transmissions are a problem but.....

Dennis, Tugi's Feroza uses a 4g63 engine, but it has a spacer adaptor between the engine and the transmission. My suggestion is you visit Benson and ask him for technical advice. I have seen them do engine conversions on many rigs. They have even use the twin turbo models of the Toyota Supra and adopt it on an LC40.
