I know they do it in the US I was just curious if people would be interested in a one make class.
Where you could buy the chassis with all the mounts on it and just have to bolt all the bits in.I was thinking of using Zook running gear hilux springs diffs could be hilux.
The Idea is to make a cheap class that everyone could afford and get into.
People are going to say whyt use Zook running gear cost and weight is why. You can buy a rolled Zook for less than a grand and you would have all the bits to complete the buggy.Diffs I guess Hilux would be the best option for the cost factor and strength.(it hurts to say that by the way).
Anyway people's thoughts.

I dont think we are ready for this type of comp yet, we need to get the current comp scene working and more comps going and classes sorted and standardised.
Before trying to get ppl into another type of comp/class that could go belly up after the first event, that leave a few ppl with a basically usless rig that cant be entered in other comps (apart from xrcc prolly)

We are in the process of organising coverage and an event of around six rounds.

The idea is VERY good, but as Spaz says, would it create more issues, all round in the comp scene?
I think you would be stretching things a little making one Brand classes.
In bike racing they started doing that for a while, class numbers dropped in the end, you had 10 races with 4 in each race, which is boring for spectators, and also gets very gets predictable as to who will win... Instead of having 3 quality races with more entrants. The club lost heaps of $ that season.
The next season when we had to combine classes to make it financially viable, 1/2 the bikes werent competitive against others, but we had no choice! Riders lost $ trying to sell bikes that couldnt be raced anymore, and just dropped out of racing cause of it.
Also are there enough Venues to have them at different sites to the current competitions. No use running the same courses, may as well just enter the other comps that are running now.

I'd be there for one - could do a rig for under $5K would be ace....

Fawk yea - just like good old times - rover based vs zuk based.
But seriously, I believe a one make comp would be good if the vehicle spec was good enough for the rig to be competitive in open competition. I would imagine that the spec rig would need a good linked rear suspension and good gearing at the very least and it would want to be more capable than 99% of daily driven rigs. I think that a spec like this is possible and as long as the rigs are very capable in their own right then it could work.

Sam i know your a Zook man but im not saying this because im a hilux man. But from what i have seen over the past couple of years in Aus is that the biggest problem you will have with using Zook drive train will be Gearing. All i keep reading on this site is how people are constantly waiting in line for their Transfer case gears or how they have broken their re-geard transfers. In my opinion if you are going to use Hilux axles you might as well be using Hilux drive trains as well. Hilux's can be bought just as cheap as zooks when damaged. Gearing options for Hilux's are far more available and no more expensive.

Ruff as I was planning on setting a tyre limit of 35 inch tyres which with series three gearing will be more than adaquate. Hilux running gear would have to way nearly doublwe that of a Zook. I am trying to make a light competitve truck. It would run leaves front and rear it has to be as basic as can be but yet very capable which with this formulaI think can be obtained.
I know that I am a Zook man and I'll be honest that is why I chase to base it on a Zook but I still think it will be more affordable and reliable strong enough there are very few series three gearsets that have failed.
And if the series was to go ahead I would have to make sure that either Rockhopper or Impact gearsets were available.

Yea - you probably dont want to be sourcing parts from more than one vehicle cause it will get very expensive.
IMO the cheapest and easiest vehicle to base a tube buggy on is a range rover. Already got coils and links and probably no need to regear if running less than 35in tyres. Only drama with the rangies is the axle strength but there are lots of ways to solve this problem.
This is basically what Im trying to achieve with the tube buggy that im building ATM. This rig is going to be awesome fun to drive and should be very capable. I havent quite achieved what I was setting out to do on this first try (and that was to be able to bolt in standard rangie parts) cause I have ended up having to modify a few things that I wasnt really wanting to modify. The next one I build will be much more "bolt in".

I think everyone is going to have there own version of what a buggy could be based on. As someone already stated the simpler it is the better.I have sat down and come with a formular of what I think will work right down to the scoring.I have already started to get things underway to make this formular a reality.I appreciate everyones input.

I think there could be a need because it allows anybody to build a spec rig, be competitive and have a shiat load of fun. And you dont have to bend up your tourer rig either - this would probably be a cheaper way to go.

I have done some calculations the diffs and springs are Hilux everything would come of a sierra. The only other non sierra parts are the power steering.
I have done some calculations and you should be able to build one and have a trailer to get it around on for around $15000. That is for us to build one for someone.
There would also be nothing stopping people from throwing on a bigger set of tyre and entering other open events as well.
ps. did I forget to tell everyone they have to be purple and red.

I am going to put the new buggy on hold a nd build 1-2 prototype buggies to suit this formular and then we can get an excact pricing and everyone will get to see what they are like and take it from there. I may even run an open day somewhere where anyone can come and have a drive of one.SAM

I wouldn`t be in this being 6 foot 4" its kind of hard getting in my 4runner let alone a sierra.

They will be made to fit anyones' height the seat mounts will be adj.We had already thought about that problem.

I'm 6'4" and fit in a Sierra Ute and Big Steve is 6'5" or thereabouts and fits in his Sierra.
