40s front axle question

Post by 83bj »

About 100mm in from the outer axle oil seal on both sides of a a 40s front diff housing is a circular plate thing. It has three holes around it, one on either side and another at 90deg to the 1st two. My question is does the odd hole go to the top or the bottom. When i tapped them out they were dirty and i diddnt see the holes or which way it went.
Sorry if this isnt very clear but i would appreciate any thoughts.
thanks

i broke and bent a lot of axles, once one of them fell totally inside my housing, and i wondered what it was. I ran around for another year or so, it hasnt bothered me. all it does is stop oil surging against the seal from inside the diff.

If its the part im thinking of.

so it wont matter where it is in there.
hands and mums dont count!!!
