OK guys I mocked up the fitting of the engine today couldn't decide how high to mount the engine in relation to the diff, chassis rails etc.

Things I am considering are:
  • sump --> diff clearance
    air plenum --> bonnet clearance
I am sorted for the motor position forwards/rearwards and laterally but am not confident enough to give myself the ok on the engine height without hearing some opinions....

logically I'm thinking that sump --> diff clearance should be full diff compression to bumpstop + 2 inchs of bumpstop compression (overestimate) + 1 inch of clearance.

anything i might not be considering?

have you thought of having to mod the sump?
pics of the sump would be to help with this discussion

another point i would do is use the height of the transfer case as a guide so the auto - transfer case jack shaft is lined up good

how much "pitch" (in ways of leaning back) is the engine going to have , if any?

By the looks of things the pitch will be pretty much spot on in line with the stock pitch of the tranny at the moment. I am trying to keep this angle as close to stock as possible to avoid other driveline issues.
Pic of sump, not really clear but best i have at this point in time. The sump will probably also work more efficiently on the uphills if the pickup is at the rear of the engine as well.

that a fwd or rwd sump?

thought u may need a rear bowl to go over the diff?

yeah fwd sump...gonna cut and flip as the bolt pattern isn't symetrical, should work out ok.

i say you want it as low as possible without it being an issue with the drive line or the diff which you have pretty much sorted :D

oh yeah! definitely!

I've been talking to some of the guys and I reckon the best way to get the result I want is to pull the bumpstop rubbers out and pull the bolts out of the front of the springs to get the diff resting on the bumpstop mounts. This will give me the max compression of the diff in relation to the sump clearance. I will then add another inch of clearance to this which should keep me in the clear....
