GU vibration

Post by pootrollin »

My GU 3 litre has developed a vibration when changing into top gear. It is an auto. When it changes into top gear on the highway, it fells like the tailshaft starts to vibrate. It goes out fairly quick but today it was more of a shudder. I have check the uni and tailshaft, diff oil, greased the shaft and unis. Tailshaft is not out of balance as it only vibrates on this one gear change. Any ideas.

go to an auto shop and have it checked out.

i had similar issues when the overdrive kicks in. Turns out its the torque convertor - lining is coming off.

Another quick question, first trip of the day would it take a while to go into over drive. Mikne takes about 10 kays up the highway until it changes.

I got the same thing, not sure if its related to the over drive problem or because its cold it just trys to warm up the oil before kicking in.

Russels Automatics at Oxenford. Converter rebuild if it is ok or an extra 250 for a new one. If i go new i may get a higher stall if available. Strip the box and check the clutches, play with a spring or two to make it hold gears a bit more. see what happens with it.

All fixed now?

Got mine back friday night and drives like a new car again, no more shudders, slips into overdrive (convertor lock) as soon as i stop accelerating hard in 4th.

well worth the extra money!

Good to hear the proplem is gone. How did it go this morning, did it hold 3rd until it warmed up or is that fixed to? Mine was suppose to go in today but i am working in WA until the end of the month. Has to wait.

Nope, it goes straight to 4th then locks the convertor, no waiting at all.
