lose the hilux, get a 80 series DX on LPG, good for towing, good for work, and will probably cost less than the onversion. can't go wrong. engine conversions are heartache especially when you're trying to build a tow vehicle - the 75 on a trailer will be well over 2T and the hilux chassis and drivetrain will not put up with it.

engine change

Post by cashy »

i have a 253 in my lux cant go wrong with it
but more people are putting vn to vs motors in the get a hold of rob hadfeilds in castlemain vic for you space plate and marks aptortors sell the engine mount
the only worry is that you will presure on your gear box
it all depends on how much you wana spend
the way that i have done it is holden 253 to supra 5 speed to ford nine ince
this one works but it cost me heaps
the only thing that you need to remember when doing it is that the engine you put in it needs to be the some year or newer for carbon ensions
unless you straight gas
ring marks 4 x 4 adaptors and get some prices
but to do what i have done will cost you more than $5000 for every thing
any questions just ask
cheers cashy
p.s dont let any one convince you to sell it

i chucked a 1KZ-TE into my 2.8D lux, best thing ive ever done- the acceleration and going up hills in 5th is addictive, and so is that turbo whistle! :D

Yeh miss the whistle, but this next lux i build wont be getting the guts flogged out of it on rocks etc.
Doing a run out west in a couple of months to bourke with a couple of other vehicles, so looking for a nice cruising motor, only needs to push 33s, one locker purchased and running 4.8s. Thats y im thinking v6.
Also if i build another comp truck next year it will either be a ln46lux or lwb zook so wieght wont be heaps, putting it off till we all learn whats happening rulewise with our comps.
Thanks for all the imput so far

v6 will be screaming its head off with 4.8's and 33's. 4.3's or 4.6's would be better.

how about a lexus V8?

Well havnt bought 33s yet, got xtended shackles and 2"springs under, nothing stopping me putting 2" bodylift in and buying 35s, although i would have to lift front bar, the side steps would be ok, brush bars may look funny though, thats why i only wanted to run 33s.
Lotta guys doing the lexus v8 now, mate of mine put it into his bundy few years ago.

a properly built lux and especially a zook should be damn light

so if you can build an 80kg carbon fiber trailer you can tow it with a lux?
