Reco torque convertors - GQ - MORE ISSUES!!

It's not the modification to the TC that is causing this though.

This is a problem that was caused by company XXX when they fooled around with the valve body kit a year ago.

I never had the problem before when it was as Wholesale Auto's had it.
I should've stuck with Rodney as he seems to be the guru with these, not this other mob....

Cut your losses and go to a real auto place where they actually know what they are doing.

Thats what I've done and when my box blows up which Im expecting it to do which is also supposedly "FULLY REBUILT" I'll go to Rodney, or KB in Berwick. At least the times I've dealt with them, they have fixed shit first time, and stood by their work...

You will persist with it, and with what they've said about you that I told you (pretty much the same as they said about me) they will just keep shafting you over and over..

why dont you guys just all lodge complaints with the MTA?
get your money back.
you will never get the time that you wasted back but at least your wallet will be better off.

get someone else to fix their fcukup and then send them the bill for it.

I'm at the stage where I want to rip the box out and put a 5 speed manual in.
I just have no faith in it anymore.

they wont admit they do any wrong. Nothing is ever their fault.

take it up with the MTA, together with tyhe details of others you know with the problem from teh same place

then take yoru truck to a " reputable " transmission place, dont tell them who built it, tell them you want a full inspection, treport and repair and a costing.

then send them teh bill along with a legal type letter of demand. ( if you do this all at once you will have maximum effect) as they could probably sit 1 case in court but if they have to front 2 or 3 or more people with the same problem they will settle the matter.

was it your TC they reconditioned? Did it come with a warranty?

Just had my TC reconditioned and my gearbox rebuilt on the GU.

Get another valve body and replace it with one that has not been touched and see how that goes...

Has any one checked cooler flow with a flow meter to make sure there is enough there, no flow through cooler the box will burn up real quick, you must use the oil cooler tanks in the radiator for cooling the air cooler is not enough with this transmission.

Under what conditions are you manually using the lockup?

I have an alloy radiator in now which doesn't have the end tanks so all I have are the two coolers out the front. They have been up to the task normally.

It seems that the valve body kit is the problem. I'll see what Rodney says about it and may get him to work on it after the trip. For the time being I'll have to wire in a lock up switch. I'll only have to use the lock up switch if or when it jumps out of lock up at highway speeds.

Has the problem been there or near after the radiator was fitted?I have had previous experience where air coolers are not enough on the patrol some vehicles they are ok but they do not seem to work on a patrol when used stand alone,They cool to a point then become heat soaked and will not cool the oil even when the lock up is on it would be a good idea to fit a temp guage to the trans and see what it runs at, Sometimes when the trans get real hot the lock up is working but feels not effective.

You could also tap an led into the lockup circuit to make sure that the computer is comanding it to work when it feels like it's not, just to elimate the computer.

Just my 2c post up how you go.

Thanks for the comments, some food for thought there.

I do have a temp gauge fitted. When it is unlocked and heating up, when I back off it cools down straight away.
The issues only started originally when the "experts" fiddled with the valve body kit when all I wanted was an oil change.

I have a turbo LWB TD42 auto and mine gets a little hot under the collar in summer offroad with the 35's on.

I am going to try one of these.....

fan kicks in automatically when oil temp reachs 70 degrees....

$400 or so from rocket industries delivered..........just shopping around to see if I can get a better price

My GQ auto has one of Rodney's valve bodies, torque convertor manual lockup, synthetic trans fluid and no trans coolers in radiator but 2 mounted in front as GUJohnno has on his GQ. Towing our 1.6-1.8 tonne caravan the highest auto temps we see are 85 degrees C with the torque convertor unlocked and going uphills in 2nd or 3rd gear.
With the torque convertor manually locked in 3rd it quickly settles down to 50-55 C.
Prior to getting rid of the radiator mounted cooler (still with one auxiliary cooler) we would often see temps 100+ C towing up the hills.

The factory cooler is not needed! If the water is at 90*c then the trans fluid will be heated to that temp and can not go below it.
I have twin ali cooler (on the deck with fans) and my trans temp is always below the engine temp. My trans temp rarly even gets to 80*c and then only for short times and then it drops very quickly. Now take into account the load I put on it will HP Simex tyres etc and the results speak for themselves.
As for the cooler above, I would think that you'll need 2. It looks a little on the small size but definitely the right idea!
I have 2 coolers that look quite a bit bigger than that and have twin fans that run constantly.
