FS5R50A vs FS5R50B

Post by Mario »

What´s the diference between those 2 GQ transmissions? Mine´s got the B trans. Is the A the earlier one with 4.5:1 first ? Is the B the one with 4.2:1 first ?

5-speed Manual
FS5R50A
5-speed with synchromesh on all forward gears and reverse.
Floor Shift Lever.

Gear Ratios:
1st: 4.556
2nd: 2.625
3rd: 1.519
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.836
Reverse: 4.245

Guess this are the B numbers:
3.0 and 4.2 manual gearbox ratios = 1st 4.262, 2nd 2.455, 3rd 1.488, 4th 1.000, 5th 0.850, rev 3.971.

I´m I right?

I was under the impression the "B" box was the 2nd generation box with better (or even double??) syncros. I was also told they changed to the "B" box around late 93 early 94?

Anyone able to confirm this?

I have not seen any GQ's with the B box.

To tell if you have a "B" Box is if it has no PTO cover on the side and the gear shifter is right back on the top cover, this is the GU one, never seen any GQ's with the FS5R50B transmition.

all GQ's i have seen (that includes a 97 petty and Diesel) compliance plates all state FS5R50A,

50B only made its debut onto the GU.

dont forget if you wanna bolt the GU box into a GQ you will end up with your shifter about 50mm further back towards your console,

and as for a GQ box in your GU its reversed, your shifter will be under your heater box.
