You could always mount an external Bosch 070 fuel pump on the lh chassis outrigger where the carby pump used to go, and just use your existing tank? People will tell you that the pumps don't like sucking out of the tank like that, but 2 years later I'm still waiting for my secondhand pump to fail.....

I agree with cloughy I run a high volume low pressure lift put mounted near the tank which pumps into a swirl pot then out of the pot into a efi pump although I have gone through three fuel pumps (lift pumps) in three weeks but I think that is due to crap in my tank. what is a Bosch 070? is it a lift pump or a efi pump

Not quite. The Bosch 070 is a generic replacement for a number of cars which run that style of external fuel pump, including Alfa Romeo GTV6s (2.5 litre v6). It is basically the same spec and size as a VL commodore fuel pump, but for some reason is considerably cheaper They can apparently support up to 300 horsepower, but as I say, they are just 'one size fits all' replacement pump for a number of cars. I think the last one I bought was about $130 from Bursons (trade price).
A Bosch 044 is the big 700 horsepower fuel pump used on a lot of modified turbo cars, and there are a couple of other models I think which cover the in between power figures.
Hally, do you have a filter between your lift pump and your tank? If not, would be worth chucking one in - plastic Ryco jobbie would do the trick, about $10 and chuck it once its blocked, grab a new one and repeat until they don't fill up with crud.

I agree that a surge tank with a lift pump feeding the main pump is the ideal solution, and its always been my intention to go to this setup eventually, I'm just lazy
However, I currently have two cars running without surge tanks - simply a Bosch 070/VL commodore fuel pumping sucking out of the tank through a plastic Ryco filter, and I'm still waiting for one to fail - hasn't even failed when I've had fuel surge from running the tank down too low. Maybe I'm just lucky.....

I had 3 fail on the first car I ever owned/built when I was nieve and didn;t set up the fuel system correctly, rangies get swirl with a low tank, 2 good reasons to do things properly for meRangingRover wrote:
